It was cold outside, cold enough that ice was starting to form on the roads and pathways, frost gathering in the corners of shop windows and the ground crunched with every step I took. I was honestly surprised it wasn't snowing yet.
I had spare change and time to waste, and when I saw the sweet looking little coffee shop on the corner, I decided that a hot drink would be a good idea to warm me up, especially since I was damn near frozen from being out in the cold for so long. I shivered as I approached the door, and the second I opened it, I was hit with a waft of warm air, the sudden contrast giving me goosebumps as I inhaled the wonderful smell of freshly brewed coffee. I'd never been in this coffee shop, so I took a good few seconds to take in the atmosphere, and it was quite possibly the most cosy, inviting coffee shop I'd ever set foot in.
I stood at the back of the line of four other people and looked up at the board on the wall which had all of the drinks available written on it in the neatest handwriting I had ever seen. I had a hard time making up my mind in the couple of minutes it took for the others to make their orders, so I just chose a Cappuccino and by the time I had decided, it was my turn to order. I was nervous, I was always nervous ordering, especially at places I'd never been before. I had my head down, scratching my neck awkwardly as I waited for one of the busy baristas to come up to the counter and take my order, and it only took a few seconds before I heard the sweetest sound
"Hi there! What can I get you today?"
The voice that chimed from behind the counter sounded like music to my ears, smooth like honey and enough to make me immediately look up to the person it came from. The face I was met with make my heart thump. He looked like an angel, I'd never seen someone so beautiful before. He had chestnut brown hair that looked as though it felt like silk; Almond shaped eyes, cheerful and a warm, deep brown that I could have gotten lost in for hours. But there was one thing that make my heart flutter even more; That beautiful smile...it was a genuinely happy smile that made me feel happy too.
He tilted his head to the side, "Miss? Are you alright?" I blushed and in my head I cursed myself for looking like an idiot the first time I ever come to this place. I look behind me and see that there are no other people in line, what a relief, the last thing I wanted to do after making an idiot of myself was hold up the line. I quickly apologised and he just..beamed. "It's no problem at all Miss, what would you like to order?" I placed my order and he nodded, still smiling sweetly as he typed it into the cash point on the counter. "Great choice!" I couldn't help but laugh at how enthusiastic he seemed and he chuckled as well, his eyes crinkling as he did so. He asked me if I'd like to order my coffee to go or whether I'd be staying in the coffee shop; And of course, I chose to stay.
"That'll be $3." I pulled the money out of my pocket and handed it to him and as I placed it in his hand, my skin ever so slightly brushed against his, and even though it was only the smallest of touches, I could still feel the warmth radiating from his hand. "Thank you..." And as he paused he tilted his head again like he had before when he was waiting for me to order. "Oh, Y/N" and he once again beamed at me, "Y/N, Y/N...what a lovely name!" I blushed furiously and he chuckled as he placed the money in the cash register. "Thank you Y/N, if you'd like to go and find a table, I'll bring you your order soon!" He handed me a receipt and I thanked him, walking away with legs that felt like jelly beneath me to sit at a table with a small plant in a pot placed in the middle. I wasn't sure what kind of plant it was, but it had beautiful orange-pink flowers blooming on it, I leaned down to smell it, not expecting it to have a scent, seeing as it was so small, but it smelled so sweet, almost like roses but even sweeter.
It only took a few minutes for my coffee to be made, mostly spent taking in the warm, cosy interior of the shop and glancing over to the counter a little too often, most of the time finding him looking straight back at me with a smile so warm it could have melted me. And I felt nervous again as he came out from behind the counter with a steaming cup of coffee, taking extra care as not to spill a single drop from the rather full mug. He walked over, for some reason looking equally as nervous, and placed the cup down ever so carefully, once again smiling as he did so. Getting close enough as he set down the cup that I could see a soft blush on his cheeks. "I hope you enjoy your coffee!" He clasped his hands together as he spoke, happiness radiating from him as his eyes crinkled again. "
"Thank you...Kun?" And he nodded, "That's me!" I told him he had a lovely name, as he had said to me when I told him mine, and the visible pink flush spread across his face as he thanked me. He looked over at the counter, "Oh, customers! " He quickly thanked me again for ordering and said he hoped to meet me again soon, beaming at me once more before bounding back to the counter, squeezing through the little gate to get behind it, and greeting the customers and taking their orders, smiling at them almost as brightly as he smiled at me. And after taking a few orders, he glanced over at me again, still flushed baby pink. I saw him look down at my cup of coffee that I'd already taken a few sips of, and looked back at me, he looked...hopeful. I looked down as well, confused. Or at least I was confused until I saw the napkin under my cup, the corner was turned up so I could see the same neat handwriting scrawled on it as on the menu board on the wall.
I took the napkin out from under the cup and my heart thumped even louder as I saw what was written. A phone number, and a note.
"I'd love to know you better! How about we meet after my break tomorrow? 2.30pm? - Kun :)"
