The landing was smooth, and our ponies had landed in a small patch of grass next to a huge stable. Argus helped me off my horse, and I guess I wasn’t paying much attention, because when I looked up, there happened to be a small crowd waiting for me. They all seemed about the same age, teenaged, but most of them had a look of pity on their faces.
“Umm, hello.” I said. I was relieved on the inside- they wore orange shirts and whatever else of their choice. Not a military camp. But all of my relief vanished as soon as a man with a horses butt trotted up to us, a worried look on his face. “Oh. God. Freakin. No.” I said, exasperated, as I shook my head.
“Argus, were there problems? Were you pursued?” the centaur asked quickly. Argus shook his head, then pointed at me. “What?” I asked. “Well, yes, she must be confused. Kevin Converse, I am Chiron-"
“The centaur trainer of Hercules and all of those other Greeks. But you… are standing in front of me. Like a boss.” To my surprise, Chiron laughed and patted me on the back. “You are a smart one, Kevin. Now, if you would follow me to the Big House, I will explain.” Chiron started walking past the stables with the rest of the group and Argus. I had no choice but to follow.
I was sick to my stomach. I hadn’t a clue what the big house was, or what they were going to tell me. ‘Kevin Converse, you are the last Greek on earth, now we must kill you!!!’ Okay, maybe not that, but something was bad was bound to happen to me.
“Hey, I’m Rachel Dare.” A red headed girl slowed and walked next to me at my pace. “Kevin, but you probably already know that.” I sighed. I looked up into her startling green eyes. She laughed. “Kevin, today is the least of your worries. Just relax, you’re in good hands.” I tried to shake it off; that was impossible. I was in the hands of a surfer and a centaur. But something told me Rachel was right. This chick new best. It wasn’t in the creepy way, like from Rapunzel’s fake mom: ‘Mother knows best!’ it was more of a ‘This chick is freaking cool; you can trust her, Kevie!’
My thoughts were cut off as I now stood in front of a decent sized house, blue with white trim. “This, Kevin, is the Big House.” I heard Chiron say. Rachel walked me to the front of the group. On the porch was a man wearing a purple suit, holding a stick with a pinecone on it.
“Hello, Quintlux.” He smiled.
