The Counselors

chapter seven.

Ever since she left him standing there that night, awkwardness was not a choice, it was there just like the tension. Becca couldn't even look at him without thinking about so she just left. She asked the camper director to switch groups, so now she works with the Elephants and the clowns were alone with Cody, and Cody was alone without her.

She eventually blocked the thought of him out of her mind but every time she saw him the pain just came back. The emotion she felt that night when their lips almost collided and she blocked because of who? Ashley, the blonde headed archery counselor. 

It was now the third week of July and finally Becca had enough; she didn't know that he couldn't either. Cody walked towards Becca and she turned around. 

"Hey," she said in a soft, yet awkward tone.

"I can't stand us being apart," her heart stopped at his words, "I mean, not being friends. I was carried away in the moment. Besides, Ashley..."

"Yeah, I'll be back to Clowns next week anyways."

"Ok, I'll see you then."

Disappointed, Becca trudged off in the mud as the rain started to pour once more and the tears started to roll down her face. To think she thought that, he, Cody, liked her, Becca. All of the sudden, her walkie talkie went off:

"Becca to Cody, come in."

"This is Becca, continue."

"We have a lost camper in the woods, Brody."

"I'll be there in a flash," she said.

Even though this expedition to find Brody didn't go quite as it did previously, they still enjoyed it and their friendship was rekindled once more. 

She didn't understand Cody's feelings, much less him, but what she did understand is his kind heart and amazing spirit; his joking around attitude always made her seem completed. When they were apart she seemed incomplete and she felt diminished when she saw him with Ashley even though she wouldn't admit it to herself. 

Why did he make her feel the way she did? 

Why did she want him the way she did?

She thought she'd never know but maybe she'll find out soon.
