"Pencil Case?" Jen asked.
"Check," James replied.
"Water bottle?"
"Uhm, check. All done, can I go now?" he asked as he started walking step-by-step to the entrance of Batton High School suspiciously.
"Wait," she stopped him as she sensed a 'lie', but no, that was not one of her powers. "Did you do your homework?"
"Un-check," James said, with his smile turned upside down. It was an ordinary day with extraordinary siblings in school. Or else, not too ordinary.
"Gay Jays! Gay Jays!..." the group of infamous bullies came again, ever since someone created that joke about their surnames.
"I'm gonna go to class," James ran away.
"Wait for me!" Jena pleaded, but she was too late. The bullies have surrounded her.
"Oh no, James left his princess here all alone!" Chris, the head bully, mocked.
"He's my Brother," Jen said, rolling her eyes, "what do you want?"
"Are you gay?" he questioned.
"Yes, I was gay. I was happy before you came," she roasted them. Chris wanted to punch her. All of them started nodding at each other. With Jen's quick reflexes, she saw the punch coming towards her and ducked. However, like I told you, she could not read minds, the person behind her punched and kicked her hard. Ouch! Her face grew red.
"Only use your powers if you are wearing your mask or at home," Jen's mom's voice repeated in her head. Suddenly, a strong wind blew. It blew away all the papers Jen was holding. She laughed when she saw Chris's hair messed up by the wind. They continued to beat her, but she did not seem to have any bruises. Jen peeked in between two bullies to see two unfamiliar faces arguing. "Weird," she thought, "I know everybody in school. Maybe they are new."
Out of the blue, Chris and his gang walked away. There was no sign of principals or whatsoever. The two unfamiliar people came to Jen's aid, and Jen saw their name tags. Tam and Mary.
"Thank-"
"Ring!... Ring!... Ring!..." the school bell rang. They helped Jen pack the papers and went for class.
Time flew past and Jen and James started walking home.
"So, what did I miss?" James asked.
"Well, first I got beaten up by Chris and the rest, but I dodged the first punch by accident. Then, these two people, Mary and Tam, helped me get up after the bullies suddenly walk away," Jen answered, then stared at James, "unlike you."
"Sorry!" he apologised, full of guilt as an older brother, "however, please be careful and do not reveal your identity. What if they become bad and attack us?"
"Whatever, anyway, I think the beating has drained my energy. Can we teleport home?" she pleaded. James agreed in apology of her. They quickly hid in the corner, held hand and disappeared. Well, teleported, I meant.Even before they appeared in the house, they knew that there would be chaos. True enough, Jack, the youngest of the three, lost his necklace.
The necklace that defines right from wrong. The necklace that contained their powers. The necklace that take their powers away if taken out or if they break the law of Jay. The necklace that can punish them. The Necklace of Law.
"Jack! Where did u last see it?" Mom asked with worry.
"On my neck?" Jack said, with a little joke to lighten up the room a little. "I'll go check the backyard," he said as his plan did not work. He did as he said.
"Calm down, Jane, we won't be sent back to Jay," Johnny, their Father, reassured mom who was sobbing.
As Jack went to the backyard, he suddenly heard noises and footsteps running in the woods behind their house. There was smoke. However, there was no sign of big fires. Jack started walking towards the trees as his heart beat fast. There were chants. The eleven-year-old boy went closer and closer, the noises became louder and louder. He felt like there were drums in him, filling his head. Suddenly, he stepped on something hard and rough. Jack was so shocked that he skipped a heartbeat. He took a step back to see what it was. He was filled with relief as he picked up a necklace with a 'J' on it. He found it! Then, he heard the noises again. Out of fear, Jack quickly put on the necklace, knowing that he would be safe with it. As he turned around to tell the family members what he had found, he took a quick glance at the spot where he found his necklace. Jack had to look twice before he realised that there was something else there. It was an envelope. He took it with curiousity and ran back to the house, pocketing it.
"I found my necklace in the backyard! And I also fo-" Jack had said before everything went black.
"I think I went colourblind," Jane said, "I see things in shades of green."
"That's your night vision. We can't see a thing," Jen told mom. "Jack, laser light," she said as she turned to her left even though he was on her right. This made Mom laugh. Jack did as he was told. He looked up and strained his eyes and a pair of lasers came out from his eyes, lighting the whole room.
However, as soon as the whole room lit, everyone saw what Jack was laser-ing! It was their chandelier! Jacks eyes widened which made it worse. The chandelier fell and Jen caught it with telekinesis. She slowly put it down as she knew it was expensive.
As soon as the chandelier touched the ground, the lights came back on. Jen and James saw someone outside, who is wearing a black mask, messing with the electricity. As that person was leaving, Jen and James caught hold of the masked person.
"Hey! What are you doing?" Jen asked, suspicious of that person.
"I am uhh... fixing the electricity," she said, in her original voice. Jen knew that voice.
"So, you have powers?" James asked. Jen nudged him as a reminder not to reveal their identity.
"Yeah... I have erm... powers," she said in a more manly voice. The next thing they knew, she went away.
Now, back to Jack. He ran up to his room and locked the door. He fished out the envelope to examine it. It was a white envelope with dirt marks on it. He turned it around to see a 'J' on it. He tried to open it with all his strength but failed. He knew one of the law of Jay is that everything must happen for a reason. Deciding that he will open it the next day, Jack took a rest.It was the end of 1 February 2055, 11pm.
Look out for the next chapter coming soon!
