The next day came, with the smell of pancakes waking the kids up. Each of them took a plate respectively with chocolate syrup and a cup of Jink, a compulsory drink for their energy every day. As they pounced on the couch one by one, they switched on the television. It was the news.
"Mysterious person saves the night, superheroes rumoured to be on Earth," the reporter said on the television.
"I feel like I know her," Jen commented.
"Or him," her older brother added.
"It's definitely a girl. I think she knows me, that's why she used a manly voice. All superheroes have the same rule; do not reveal their identity," she explained, "what if-" suddenly, their necklace started beeping. They knew it was about what they were talking about. All of them stood on the tenth step of the two-storey house and repeated a code.
Each step of the stairs moved to transform into an elevator. While doing so, the doors clicked ultra lock and the windows were covered. Once the first step covered the last hole in the ceiling of the elevator, it dropped a hundred metres down to a secret basement. It was this important.
As the elevator doors open, there was a room. It had a huge screen with a ringing phone shown on it. Standing in a row, they clicked their necklace. Then, a lady appeared on the screen. She had long, brown hair tied into a bun and fair complexion. She was sitting on a throne with a crown on her head. She was the princess of Jay.
"Good morning, Jayers. We have heard that there are other beings from other dimensions on Earth, but please, focus on our Mission first. It may happen anytime and you have to protect Earth or else other planets, kingdoms, and dimensions may get attacked too," Princess Jay said. She was talking about the curse. The curse that Ville placed 125 years ago. It will cause villains to destroy Earth to make humans extinct. It was the Jayers' job to protect Earth as Earth is the foundation of Jay. "You should be able to open the envelope tomorrow or so," she added.
"We have yet to find it, Princess," Johnny apologised, making a 'J' with his thumb and index finger and placed that hand on his left side where his heart was and bowed his head.
"What?! It has been a year, and you do not know when it is possible? It could be happening now, tomorrow, anytime!" Princess Jay bellowed.
"Wait, does the envelope have a 'J' on it? And it's buried underground?" Jack asked, remembering what he had found the previous day.
"Yes, my dear," she said calmly.
"Be right back," he responded as he ran to the elevator and went back up. He darted into his room to get the envelope and walked down slowly, opening it. Hoping to do so, he lasered the envelope open and took out a folded piece of paper. The date of the possible end-of-the-world was written in there.
He agreed to himself to peek at the date but he could not open it even if he used all it strength— but that would be a waste of energy.
"Right," Jack mumbled, "we can only open important letters in the presence of High King Jay." He took the piece of paper and placed it back into the envelope and brought it down o the basement. "Is this it?" he asked, holding the envelope up, "I found it under my necklace yesterday when I lost it."
"You lost your neckl- wait, did you lose it or did it just disappear?" Princess Jay questioned.
"Disappeared."
"You did not take it out?"
"Nope."
"Let me ask for my Father. Anyway, you need him to open it." As soon as High King Jay appeared on the screen, the Jayers knelt down to respect him.
"Up," he ordered, "I hope you have found your necklace and the envelope. I found the envelope with your security camera in your backyard so I teleported Jayboy's (Jack's) necklace there. You may open it now." Johnny took the paper out and opened it.
"Zero two slash zero five slash two zero five five (02-05-2055)" he read. Everyone was shocked. It was near.
"Is it in three months or three days?" James asked.
"Should be months. Ville's men will start a fire, based on their traditions, in a forest about 4 days before the war to tell Ville where he should land. I don't see any news on fires. What do you think?" High King Jay explained. On hearing this, Jack frowned.
"Must the fire burn trees?" he asked.
"No. As Long as there are trees nearby. Why?"
"Yesterday while I was finding my necklace in the backyard, I heard some running in the woods and I smelt smoke."
"Could that mean..." Jen asked with fear.
"Yes. Ville knows that I've sent you here in Battonsville and the war is in three days," he paused, "they will land behind your house. You are their first target. You should find them so you know exactly where they will land. Any possibilities?"
"It should be in the center, where there is a big patch of grass," Johnny said.
"Okay.. good thinking," High King Jay praised, "but why is there no trees there?"
"I moved them. We camp there sometimes," Johnny said. He had nature powers.
"Can we attack them?" Jack asked.
"No. There will be no point. The curse will happen anyway. Only defence. Get going before it's too late! Jayman (James), teleport your family there!" he commanded. What will happen in the woods?
