"Peter no!" You squealed as he continued to tickle you. "I- can't- breathe-" you stuttered.Peter laughed and then finally let you go.
You gasped for air.
Ever since you and Peter had cleared up the misconception about Michelle, the two of you had been inseparable.
You completed homework together, ate meals together, watched movies, took walks in the park, and even stood up to Michelle and Flash together.
You were having the most fun you'd ever had because for the first time in your life you had a best friend. Someone who cared about you no matter what.
You and Peter had even discussed the fact that you could be soulmates, but there had already been quite a few romantic occasions and neither of you had said the other's Phrase that was written somewhere on the their body.
"I guess maybe we're just meant to be friends." You had said.
And in truth, you were crushed by that idea. You wished with all of your heart that Peter was the one for you, but somewhere inside of you, somehow, you knew that he wasn't going to say your Phrase.
So the two of you lived like best friends.
One weekend in the late fall there was a school-wide field trip to the science and space museum in Washington DC, and you, Peter, and Ned were entirely ready to party together in a hotel room.
"Look, I've got sodas, chips, and a coupon for some crappy pizza that expired last week. Maybe they'll still take it." Ned had said the day before you left on the bus.
Peter had decided to sit with Ned on the bus this time because you and him had been spending an awful lot of time together lately and he felt bad. You thought that was a worthy excuse to not sit with you and you spent the whole ride up to DC with headphones in listening to music as you watched the world move outside the bus window.
You had finally gotten to DC and had toured the first of three museums. You were to be there for two days and the last two museums were to be toured the next day, so your school had trekked back to the reserved hotel and gotten hotel rooms.
You were sharing a room with a girl you didn't know from a grade above you, but you didn't mind. You were in Peter and Ned's room most of the night anyway.
"Uno!" Ned shouted as he placed down a card.
"Crap! ___ change the color!" Peter frantically searched his deck for something to help.
You put down a color changing card and smiled. But before you could announce that you were changing the color to green, Peter stiffened, jumped backwards off of the bed and peered out the window.
"Uh, Peter?" You said. "The color is green now, what're you doing?"
Peter crouched near the window shades and shushed you. "Keep it down, there's something going on."
You slid off the bed and Ned let his card fall.
"What's going on?" You whispered as you crouched next to Peter.
"I'm not sure yet, but I..." he glanced at Ned and you saw them have a conversation with their eyes.
"I need to go..." Peter stood up.
"What?" You stood up as well and watched as Peter walked over to where his backpack was stuffed under the bed.
He pulled it out and slung it over his back.
"Peter, it's almost midnight, you'd be breaking curfew. Where are you going? Can't it wait till tomorrow?" You anxiously asked.
"No." Peter didn't meet your eyes. "I... it has to be now... and I really have to leave." He glanced out the window nervously.
"Well... let us come with you," You said.
Ned coughed. "Uh, maybe this is something Peter needs to do on his own," Ned offered.
You shook your head. "That's insane. Anything Peter needs to do he can trust us to help, right?" You looked back at Peter.
Peter wasn't looking at you. "I can't let you." He said. He began to make his way to the door. "I really have to go, but you two need to stay here." He looked up at your face. "Trust me, you really need to stay here." He said.
You bit your tongue and watched him shut the door behind him.
"Well... should we keep playing?" Ned awkwardly sat back down on the bed.
Your brain was in overdrive. Why was Peter leaving? This was dangerous. You had heard that there was a villain here in DC, what if Peter ran into him? What if he got hurt? You could never forgive yourself if you passed up this chance to stop him from being injured.
"No," You said.
"No? Okay... then what should we do? I think I brought some Phase Ten cards if you- hey, ___ wait!"
You had thrown open the door and had decided to follow Peter.
Rounding a corner in just your socks and pajamas, you listened for sounds of movement in the hallway.
Your ears picked up something by the vending machines and you slid into the ice room. It was dark.
"Hello?" You whispered.
Suddenly something in the corner knocked over an ice bucket.
You found the switch on the wall and flipped the lights on.
Peter was standing in the corner, a red Spider-Man suit covering most of him.
You gasped. "Peter?"
