"Dan? We need to talk." I poke my head into the living room, where he's talking with Wayne, Platz, Ben, and Zoey. Dan glances up at me smiling "about what?" He asks, standing up. I blush a little. "Alone." I add and he nods, following me outside.
I sit down on the front step, and Dan sits next to me after shutting the door behind him. "So what's up?" He asks turning to me. "I..I can't do this anymore." Dan raises a brow for a second, worry in his baby blue eyes. "Can't do what?" He asks, with a note of sadness in his voice.
"I can't be with you anymore." Those 6 words kill me, and I can tell Dan feels the same by the sad look he gives me. "I'm so sorry, I just can't fight the pressure of this anymore." Dan nods slowly. "We can still be friends, just no more slipping away or me spending the night."
Dan half smiles and leans over to put a loose strand of hair back behind my ear. "It's ok, I understand." I return his half smile and lean over to hug him. We stay like this for a few minutes before standing up again to go back inside.
Ben, Wayne, Platz and Zoey look up at us as we walk back into the living room. Zoey shoots me a questioning glance, and I shake my head a little. "Well, who's hungry?" Ben asks us, standing up. We all smile and follow him to the kitchen, talking and laughing as we sit down at the table.
Soon food is done and Ben hands us all plates piled with salad and pasta. Dan takes all the olives from my plate when I'm not looking, earning laughs from the others and a confused look from me. "Hey, where'd my olives go?" I ask a few minutes later, digging through the salad. I turn to Dan, grinning "I dunno" he mumbles through a mouth of olives and I laugh.
