Ode To The Heat Wave

Pushing our bodies to the limit

Using the sun as a base

Challenges, suffering, perseverance

It gives us a bit of that taste

Be it Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin

It calls for our willpower

To accomplish our dreams

Without complaining for a shower

The 'mainstream' and 'normal'

Frame it as a calamity

But we know all too well

To use our clever insanity

Using all the tools

Passed down by those before us

Our will to live and love

Is like Mt. Everest; enormous.

Even if wildfires and droughts

Cause our chances to sway

Our tools, big and small,

Always help us find a way

Even if we 'can't stand'

Its scorching rage for much longer

We survive it Olympic-style:

Running faster, flying higher, growing stronger

Ah, the heat wave

An invisible yet powerful force

That challenges our pre-established notions

To guide us towards a common source

Whether its an ice machine on

Highway 249 or a desert oasis

The wave encourages us

To craft a chilling stasis

A stasis of serenity

That shields our energy

A stasis of wisdom

That fuels our synergy

One that reminds us

Of the atrocities we must abhor

In order to rise against hate and injustice

For a world worth fighting for

In the words of a legend,

"Our world today is in need for peace"

For us young adults it's our last chance

To force corruption to cease

Applying the pain

We all endured from the heat wave

To charge for the center stage

Having a life or two to save
