Becca's POV
"Please for all that is holy Mama," I called over my shoulder as I darted out of the kitchen hitting the stairs going down as fast as I could. "Can we table this discussion!"
I didn't give her time to reply before I hurried out of sight knowing full well that if I walked back in I'd get the ear tug from hell. I could hear my sister in law laughing as I stomped down the stairs flinging open the wooden door in front of me. With an evil grin, I tiptoed across the room to where my brother had his eyes closed in thought as he tapped out a chord on the side of his guitar. His song book was open in front of him and a cigarette smoking in the ashtray. Oh, he was going to get his ass beat for sure. Leaning over I drug my nail over the lower strings of his guitar making his eyes fly open and a growl slip past his lips. Green eyes that mirrored my own glared at me as I grinned back at him.
"I'm gonna beat your ass Becca Lynn,'' he grumbled sitting his guitar down and taking a drag. He blew smoke in my face making me smack the side of his head before I flopped down on the other end of the couch in his home studio. "Swear I got stuck with the most annoying sibling ever."
"Awww now B," I said batting my eyes at him. "Don't talk about our little brother that way."
"Was talking about you Becs," Brantley said with a laugh. "The middle child is the worst of all three of us just because you're the girl!"
"Fuck off or I will yell up the stairs to Amber that you are smoking in the house," I warned with an evil smile.
"Brat," he snarled leaning over to put the cigarette out, hiding the ashtray, then tugging a can of Febreeze out of the couch cushions spraying it around then on himself making me laugh harder. "Shut it. We both know that little woman will beat my ass."
"But you like it," I snickered then picked up the notebook between us glancing over the lyrics. I thought for a minute then took his pencil from him changing a word or two before humming it back to him. "See that sounds better."
"And what would you know about it Miss Thang," Brantley drawled reaching over to tug the end of my honey blonde ponytail. He laughed when he found something in the strands pulling it back to reveal a green bean. "Saving it for later sis?"
"No," I said rolling my eyes tossing it in the ashtray. "Your son thought it would be funny to throw green beans at me. I couldn't fuss at him. He looks so cute when he throws his head back laughing and those dimples pop out."
"Need one of your own so you will stop hogging my son," he grumbled giving me a look. I flipped him off making him laugh.
"Not you too!" I whined covering my face. "I just heard it from Mama.....again. You and Kolby are making me look like the slacker in the grandkid department."
"Well you haven't really dated much since....." Brantley said laying a big hand on my arm making me glare at him.
"Don't you dare mention his damn name," I growled. "It's bad enough I live in the same city he does. Run in the same circles. Have some of the same friends. Rich broached the subject of me writing with him last week. I threw the first thing I could get my hands on at him. Which happened to be a brand new box of guitar picks."
"That why he told me I had a demon for a sister when he called the other day?" he asked with a snicker as I shrugged batting my eyes at him. "Said that he didn't know who could be moodier me or you. Wondered if we were twins instead of three years apart. Speaking of that, someone's dirty thirty is coming up."
"Not celebrating this year," I sighed. Nope I had plans to sneak away and just write songs on the beach enjoying some alone time.
"Good luck with that," Brantley laughed and pointed up. "Try getting that past Ashley, Amber, and Caroline. Yes mam you will be celebrating in style. I saw him at a festival a couple of weeks ago. He asked about you."
