Chapter 6
I awoke the next morning to the early morning sun shrouded in fog with the man standing at the door now wearing a cloak and hat. I sat up and said. "You know, if you're looking for a place to stay, we're on our way to the capital as part of a mission, your welcome to come with us."
The man turned back and locked at me, and putting on his hat stoically declined. "I'm sorry Cyrus, but you have your own journey and I have mine. On the table in front of you I left a note, after this is over if either of us even survive this ordeal, come pay an ole bandit a visit." With that the man left and as I checked the table there was indeed a note with a location specified, but it also had a message.
"Cyrus, your companions need you, if you think so or not, get Macmillan, and then get Isa I'm sure she'll come with you after all, if she really thinks what I heard her say, where else has she got to go." I decided not to waste time I stood and quietly left walking over to the inn where the soldiers where which I had heard about from Richard. As I stepped inside the soldiers dropped what they were doing and store down on me with a judging silence.
Then Richard stepped forward, "Ah, Cyrus good to see you doing ok, here to see Macmillan I presume." He led me towards a back room where some surrians were sat at a round table playing a card game. Of the group Macmillan stood up and came over. He was shirtless with his upper body mostly covered by a large wrap of bandages.
"Cyrus! It's good to see you alive man." We gave one another a short hug before letting go. "We leaving soon Cyrus? Cause I'm more than ready to hit the road." Even with the apparent severe injuries he had he still showed an energy and tenacity that I would associate him with.
"Not quite yet, Mac I still have to get Isa."
"How is Isa doing Cyrus, last I heard she didn't seem to be taking her injury so well?" He asked as we began to walk back to the shelter.
"Your definitely right about the latter, it may take some convincing to keep her traveling with us." I hesitated filling in Mac on our fight, but thought it necessary to explain "I and her had a fight last night, she doesn't know why we're travelling and either do I and honestly I'm beginning to have the same doubts." Even after my encounters with the Figure or E, I doubted the package, and I'm not sure quite why I did then.
But I couldn't think to long before Macmillan cheerily and cleary trying to change the subject or at least lighten the mood replied. "Nonsense Cyrus, you two will recover, I mean all relationships have rocky moments to them."
"And what do you mean by that Mac?"
Macmillan smiled and said "Do you take me as unperceptive or are you just plain unobservant?"
I was confused by Macmillan's reply mostly because I was the latter. "Mac, I think you might be taking things the wrong way."
Macmillan appeared genuinely surprised as he replied. "My lord you actually are that slow, but worry not things will get better, and hopefully you'll get on the same page as everyone else."
"Mac, how can you even remain like this?"
"Like what Cyrus?"
"After all that's happened you seem almost completely unphased?"
Macmillan adopted a frown as he replied "I've been through a lot outside of wars, travelling alone through the unguarded and unregulated countryside with a large amounts of wealth and precious items tends to attract trouble. I may have not been a soldier, but I've almost always been a fighter." I understood perfectly what Macmillan had meant, but I didn't think it wise to press him for more info. It was then that we pushed open the door to the shelter. Others were beginning to awake and didn't take much notice to us as we crept past them and headed upstairs. I could hear a few people awake inside the rooms and even some doors open, but at the end of the hall was Isa's door dark and quiet. We stopped in front of the door exchanging glances and I knocked at the door I heard quiet footsteps and the door opened. Isa stood there her hair no longer in her ponytail and now left hanging down on one side hiding her stiches.
