cody pov
so i just found out my best friend is gonna be moving in exactly 365 days. that's great.
"wait you have to move back?"
"yea i guess my school in aussie wants me to finish there. i'm just as upset as you are"

that is calum. he's been my best friend since 6th grade. when my parents told me that we would be taking in a foreign exchange kid, i was expecting somewhere extraordinary like...fresno! i was in 6th grade..i guess i didn't know what extraordinary was. but i got calum anyway and when he moved in, we immediately hit it off. he was super sweet and funny. he told super cool stories about australia and how his other three friends had moved here too but with different families. anyway back to the discussion.

"so basically we are gonna be able to finish out our junior year together and then...that's it?"
"well not exactly. yes we get to start and finish junior year together but that's not it. i'm hoping i can come back after senior year."
"but cal it won't be the same without you. can't you persuade them otherwise?"
"i wish i could love"

so with that i just sat on the couch with him staring at nothing in particular just wondering what i would do without him. he leaned over and kissed my cheek, which was normal for us btw, and let me rest my head on his shoulder. we were about two weeks away from going back to school and the only reason i was still going was because of calum.

"hey don't be upset darling. we'll figure something out."

then an idea popped into my head.
"so this is your last year here?"
"yes i've expressed that multiple times now."
"well in that case. i'll make this your best last year ever. i'll get you to prom with a girl. ill get you to be prom king. i'll get you the lead in a school play. i'll get girl to have sex with you. i'll even get you a candy, ice cream, graham cracker burrito if you're into that. let's just say this will be the best last year ever. starting today."
"the day is almost over."
"starting tomorrow"
"thank you love. this means a lot."
with that he got up from the couch, picked me up and hugged me so tight i thought i would pop like a balloon. but in a good way.

we headed off to his favourite little diner. i say little because we live in a small town so everything here is small. everyone knows everyone and and their great grandmother.

we ordered our usuals with chocolate milkshakes and made a toast.
calum uttered the words that started our journey.
"to the best last year ever!"
"dido to that!"
