~*Backstory*~
Betty's mom is in the hospital because she's been diagnosed with a rare disease (not gonna name just in case someone gets offended) Betty breaks down to fear that she'll be alone if her mother dies , since her father is in jail because of his crimes and Sister has ran away and never came back.
This oneshot is inspired by an episode from grey's anatomy.

{third person POV}

Betty stares at her sleeping mother sadly who's on a hospital bed currently because she's been diagnosed with a rare disease , Alice's doctor comes in holding a clipboard "any news doctor? " Betty speaks up curiously.
"Yes , Im afraid it's bad news though." The doctor frowns , betty sighs "what is it?" She asks "Im afraid we can no longer treat the disease , since it's spread to far in her body , You're mother has very little left to live" The doctor says
"How long?" Betty asks
"No idea , sorry."
"It-Its ok." betty says as the doctor walks out of the room. Betty's breathe suddenly feels heavy , in fact everything felt heavy at the moment . As if everything was moving in slow motion.
Betty walks out of the room rushing to go to the bathroom, but is beat to the bathroom by another woman who's entering, Betty's panic rises as she quickly looks around and spots a door with a sign next to it that says 'storage closet' her breathe hitches as she walks quickly towards it.
Not noticing Jughead who's currently volunteering at the hospital for the summer behind her, Jughead watched Betty go into the closet and quickly follows behind her , opening the door seeing Betty sitting on the floor of the closet taking deep breathes and panting with glossy eyes ..Jughead closes the door behind him but  doesn't say anything he just kneels next to her as Jughead looks at Betty , Betty recognizing the look on his face , his face expression is asking  "what's wrong?"
" I don't" She stammers
"I cant" Betty says Sobbing now
With Jughead's arm on her shoulder comforting her , trying not to touch her in anyway that's romantic ,knowing he has a girlfriend ..Toni. even though Betty is his ex he still wants to comfort her , no matter what he still cares about her ,
"I cant , I don't" Betty continues stammering with tears running down her cheek
Betty continues repeating the same words trying to hold back her sobs so she can speak and tell Jughead what's wrong.
"I don't-" Betty sobs mid sentence.
"I don't - I don't want to be alone" Betty says begging to sob harder and harder by the second as Jughead rubs her shoulders , knowing very well about her situation and what's happening with her mother.
Jughead shushes her trying to calm her down.
"Sh , Deep breathes.." he says
Betty attempts trying to breathe but is practically wheezing ,  failing to calm down.
Jughead looks around and spots a sterilization paper bag , he stands up reaching for it on the shelf and kneels back down with Betty "use this" he says handing it to her , she takes the bag and begins to inhale in and exhale out.
Their hands reach eachother , Jughead grabs it and give her a reassuring squeeze. Once Betty calms down she leans in resting her head on Jughead's shoulder , Jughead reaches one of  his arms around her resting his head on hers. Betty removes her head slowly from Jughead shoulder , but Jughead doesn't move his arm off of her.
Jughead and betty have a moment of silence looking in each other's eyes , emerald eyes meeting his greenish blue eyes.
Betty breaks the silence "I'm okay." She smiles
"You're okay." Jughead says smiling back
Betty wipes her tears with her hand
"Thank you." She says
"You're welcome" He nods
They stay looking at eachother for a couple minutes.
Betty breaks the eye contact remembering about his girlfriend.
' We're just friends' Betty thought to herself
Betty stands up walking out of the closet as Jughead sat there on the closet floor , thinking
' I still love Betty cooper' .
