The sound of your tennis shoes hitting the marble staircase echoes through the castle. Though class isn't set to start for a few more days, the castle was full of excitement. Each professor was putting the final touches on their lesson plans, making sure they had every ingredient they needed or trying to remember where their classroom was.

"Professor (L/N)!" a familiar voice calls.

"Professor McGonagall!" You hurry up the flight of stairs to greet her. "How have you been?"

She gives you a quick hug before responding, "Well. The wife and I finally moved into this small cottage we have had our eye on for quite some time."

"Oh! Congratulations! I can't wait to see what you do with the place." Now that you work with her, it is hard to see her as a professor anymore.

She smiles. "I know she is hard at work, decorating. (Y/N), I do have something work related to discuss with you."

"Of course."

"I know you heard of the unfortunate news surrounding our previous Defense professor." You nod. "Well, Dumbledore has hired a man whom you know rather well. Remus Lupin."

You smile widely at the mention of your former classmate. "Ah! I always knew he'd come back!"

"Yes, we all knew Mr. Lupin had a knack for teaching. You knew that more than anyone."

You blush at the mention of your many 'study' dates with the new professor. "Defense was always one of his better subjects."

"Merlin knows it wasn't transfiguration." She laughs. "Anyway, I was hoping you could help him. Not only with..." her voice trails off, unsure of the word she was looking for.

"His 'furry little problem'?" you provide.

"Mr. Potter never was one with words, but yes. He'll also need help adjusting to teaching, just like Lockhart did."

"I'd be happy to."

"Thank you, (Y/N). You truly are wonderful."

You spend the day tidying your room and trying to clear your mind of thoughts of your newest co-worker. While at Hogwarts, you and Remus were practically inseparable. You met in your fifth year, his fourth when you offered to help him with transfiguration. It wasn't until the next year that he managed to find the courage to ask you out. Unfortunately, since you graduated a year ahead of him, you both decided it was best for the two of you to separate with plans to get back together as soon as he graduated, but his last year at Hogwarts was incredibly stressful, causing the two of you to lose touch.

Now that you were going to be working with him, you couldn't but wonder if there was any hope for the two of you to get together. Even if there wasn't, it would be nice to be around him again.

You take a seat next to Severus at the High Table as the students, and the remainder or the teachers, file into the dining hall. The two of you make pleasant conversation as you attempt to guess what house each student will be in.

"Good luck with him," you say, nodding to a kid already acting as though he owns the school.

He smiles slightly. "But I imagine he will be taking your class for an 'easy A'."

You roll your eyes at his response. "Whatever. By the time he gets to me, you will have already sucked all the joy out of his life."

Just as Severus begins to respond, a man taps your shoulder. "Do you mind if I-(Y/N)?"
