Louis ran down a hill and jumped on Harry's back who was dragged out of his daydream. "Louuuu", he whined.
"I'm having so much fun Harry, thank you so much".
Harry smiled, "of course".
He hadn't felt this good in a long while, it's like he was on top of the world, nothing could drag him down.
"Can you go find us some wood?" Harry asked, trying his hardest to set up their tent correctly.
Louis sighed, "Do I have to?"
"Do you want a campfire tonight?" Harry asked.
Louis' eyes lit up like a child's on Christmas Day, "I'll be right back", he said, going out to grab the largest sticks he could find.
"So, we have a small problem", Harry stated after everything was set up properly.
"And that might be?" Louis asked.
"We only went camping when Gem and I were still little, so it was either a kid sized sleeping bag or a two person bag". Harry said.
"So we're gonna have to share one sleeping bag then?" Louis asked.
"Well, I can always just sleep outside of the bag, if that makes you more comfortable", he answered.
"Don't be dumb, we've shared a bed plenty of times, we're friends, it doesn't matter", Louis said.
Harry smiled, "sharing it is, now help me start this fire".
They started it around an hour later, they were sitting on a log, almost cuddling with a blanket over them. Louis, being a genius, brought marshmallows.
"Open your mouth haz", he giggled, holding the melted marshmallow above his head.
Harry looked up and opened his mouth quickly, just in time to catch a drop of the gooey stuff. Louis fed him the entire marshmallow at once and laughed at how ridiculous harry looked.
It was the best trip Louis had ever been on, they went fishing a total of 3 times, they had a campfire every single night, their tent magically managed to stay up. They didn't have any animal encounters, the nature was beautiful, he loved taking a walk while harry was still asleep, it really helped him calm his mind. Every night before bed, he'd walk up one of the hills and talk to the moon, as weird as that sounded, it helped him, he'd talk about Harry, about his dad, his day, his dreams and aspirations, he'd ask for blessings.
He knew that people would think he was crazy if he ever told someone, but how could something so big and majestic have no power at all? If it could impact seas, why couldn't it have an impact on Louis himself?
Most importantly though, he hadn't cried in a solid 3 days, that was new, well, not about his dad at least.
Louis was having another trouble, sleeping cuddled up to harry for a week was a bit more comfortable than it should have been. Louis had to stop himself from lacing their fingers together several times. He had known, for a little while now, that pretty guys made his stomach do flips sometimes. He was keeping it a secret though, he knew there were people that indulged in that lifestyle but absolutely no one close to Louis was like that, and he didn't want to be like that either. He just hadn't found the right girl yet, that was all. He might be attracted to guys but there surely would be a girl that crosses his path one day, someone who'll change his mind.
He gave up on that thought pretty soon, around the 5th night to be exact. Harry just looked too damn pretty in the moonlight, it wasn't fair, God wasn't being fair. No person should be that beautiful. Now Louis knew he was staring, but it was so hard to look away.
"What?" Harry asked.
Louis shook his head, "nothing, nothing", he said.
"You've been acting so weird all day, do you have a fever?" He asked.
"What, no, harry, no, of course not", Louis stammered out.
"Then what?"
"It's nothing, I was just daydreaming", he finally said.
Harry looked like he didn't believe him but dropped the subject nevertheless. Louis was glad he did, imagine finding out the guy you've been sharing a sleeping bag with all week has a crush on you, it felt wrong. It felt wrong that night when he got in that sleeping bag and it felt wrong the next morning. It didn't feel wrong because he was in love with a guy, that was a problem on its own but he was pretty sure Harry's golden heart would accept that, it felt wrong because Harry didn't know about it, and he had every right to know, at least in Louis' opinion. So he came up with a plan to tell him.
"Hey Harry?" He said on their final night.
"Mmh", Harry mumbled.
"Can we go to our tree before we head back home?" He asked.
Their tree, they'd been going there for ages, it was literally just that, a giant tree. Since they were 10 years old, the boys would go there and just lay underneath it, sometimes gazing up at the clouds, sometimes talking about their day, sometimes having a water balloon fight, it was their little spot. They even had their names engraved on it.
"Sure", Harry just said. It wasn't anything special, they went there all the time. He wasn't really sure why Louis would ask him so early on, considering it was always a kind of last minute decision.
Now this is the part where Louis started getting nervous, he would tell Harry tomorrow, under their infamous tree, possibly ruining their friendship forever. He stayed up as long as possible that night, never wanting tomorrow to come. He wanted to stay in his little safe space forever. This was quite possibly the scariest thing he would ever do.
Morning came far too soon, he watched as Harry put everything back in the truck and made sure the fire wouldn't randomly go on again.
He got in the passenger seat, staring out the window the entire time. His breathing picked up as they got closer and closer to the spot. Harry parked near the tree and quickly got out, Louis shuffled after him. This was it.
