Lucille smoked the leg of a piglet, and the man sat silent; intrigued by the preparation of his meal. She was graceful and methodic when handling the juicy tendons of the young carcass -- Then joining the man at the table. They sat in silence enjoying each others company, as the roasting flesh was enough sound for both of them; Either of them in a deep train of thought.
"I appreciate your hospitality," the man graciously expressed, but not enough to pull the focus of the woman. She stared at the door only acknowledging the man with a soft nod of her head. "He will return," the man said, "you must have faith." he placed his hand on top of the woman's to comfort her. He felt useful in the presence of someone else who was suffering, as he felt his own problems no longer serving any importance.
"What makes you so sure?" She stood from the table and began tending to the roast. No words could reassure the company of her missing child. He followed her to the shallow fire pit in the corner of her hut. "Faith is the strongest energy to possess," he explained, yet keeping his distance as to not intrude on the woman's privacy. She stood quietly with her focus towards the roast -- she was fascinated by his words, and waited for him to continue, but he too stayed quiet.
"What about love?" She finally asked turning to face the man. He began to reflect in his thoughts once more, "That is a very vague question," he said, "Love comes in many forms, and that energy is within us all. It is how we choose to express it to others that Love is truly revealed. A mother's love for her child is unmatched by any energy -- it is that force that keeps us connected; But, in fact all too often do we forget to love when we have lost faith." He said.
"So, love is therefore the strongest energy." She rebutled. The man smiled and stared out of the small window at birds playing near the tomato garden. "Love is powerful, yes." He continued, "But, it is our faith in the rain to supply the soil with life for the plants. And, it is faith in the sun to shine each day for the plants to grow." he continued staring out the window and his smile grew wide across his cheeks. "It is not faith that supplies rain, nor sunshine." She interrupts, "The universe has a will of it's own that no person can control; Regardless of faith." She said. "There is no faith without love." She said taking her attention to the same playful birds. The man turned to the woman with an eccentric smile, few protested the words he spoke in the past. The man realized he could not hold all of the world's wisdom 'she is truly enlightening' he thought to himself.
They both sat around the table eating a fine roast, and discussing the deeper meanings of life. They were no longer confined within their minds -- finding comfort in each others perspective.
Solomon noticed her gentle fingers dancing around the roast, then, saw her eyes forcefully holding back tears; so violently her throat shook as her unbound strength prevented grief for only a just moment. She released her sorrow, and began mourning with such compassion that the man across from her did the same from the sight of her suffering.
With their minds as full as their stomachs, Solomon dismissed himself for the night. "We will look for your son in the morning," he reminded the woman before leaving.
"Where will you stay for the night?" she curiously asked before he could make his way out the door. "You won't find hospitality like this inside the city walls," she quickly added. He pondered silently for a moment. "You are welcome to stay here for the night." She offered before he could speak.
"Very well," he smiled. "I would really enjoy that." He said being escorted to his bunk.
