It was Saturday, it was the big day for Jake, the varsity championship. We had of course had a chat about what happened with Collin, which Jake told me he would of course take care of it. He wasn't disappointed in me, he actually came to the reasoning that I should be able to be anywhere in Chicago without feeling unsafe. He actually had called Collin and talked to him. The whole time I could tell he was biting his tongue and wanted to just end his life. But, Jake wanted to falsely make him feel like they were still friends. He didn't want to, but the only way he could keep Collin's trust was to make him think he was still friends with him. I even found out how Collin had found me. He was to meet with Christie at the store but she was running late. Instead he got mad for that and he drank out of anger. Apparently Collin is short patience and it showed. Well, he actually admitted he had a few drinks in him prior and her delay made him angrier and the alcohol-fueled his emotions so he had more before he came to the store. He also admitted he never actually saw her that night because of what happened and just made up some story.
Don't get me wrong. Jake chastised him enough on the phone and Collin, even though I didn't want to, spoke to me and apologized. While he talked, all I could think of was him slapping me and throwing me. I just couldn't get it out my head. And I just wanted to scream in his face and tell him to fuck off and die but I couldn't. Instead, like Jake, I had to pretend that I accepted his apology much to my dismay. Of course to make sure things were on plan for him Jake and I agree to never say a word to Christie. Instead Jake invited him over for drinks, yes alcohol, tomorrow regardless of if he won or not. Jake wasn't going to get Collin drunk by any means to make him an easier target. He just knew that Collin was like a shark, they became happy and concentrated when they smelled blood and he was the same with alcohol. Anyways, I didn't want to go into major detail about how this was all going to go down. Jake had it planned for a long time.
The morning had come and Jake had gone in early for his big game. Him and his team were going to go over plays and talk things over. I totally understood, this was a big day for him. Since big-time prospects will also be there as well. They were the guys who would be watching Jake and his team, head-hunters. If Jake displayed well today, there is a big chance he would go on to something bigger which is what we both really wanted. I know he will do well, even a simple wound wasn't going to stop him one bit. He said his arm had been at its best for the last week, making great passes and throwing hard and fast, which is what he wants.
I was super proud of Jake though, I mean we still had a few weeks left in the semester and he still needed to keep his marks up which he did to get the full scholarship, but he was determined and kept consistent. He never faltered and my help in calculus was still helping him believe it or not. But I think he pretty much had his future set for him. Football was his calling and I knew he would go far, very far. But you might have been wondering, what about me and Jake?...ok Jake and I if we want in in proper grammar. Trust me, we have talked about it.
I parked close to where the game was being played at the university, even from out here I could tell it was busy as the parking lot was full. I could hear, even from the distance I was at, the noise level was loud. This was pretty big for the city of Chicago and it's university. I mean I had never seen the bloody parking lot this full and it took me a few minutes to get in, show my ticket and finally make my way in. I know people were here to see the game but most of them were here to see their hometown hero Jake.
When I entered the actual university stadium it was packed with so many people I could hardly believe it. I didn't fathom how many people would come, I mean yes I knew there would be this many but it was really as they say in North America a packed house. I had to wedge my way in a bit past a full crowd. Not surprised, this is the big game. I don't think I said 'Excuse me' so much in my life until I found my place.
