Bridget's POV
It's the first day of Sophomore year. My first class is Creative Writing. My two best friends also have this as their class. We are sitting in rows of two. They're sitting together. They say I can't sit near them. I feel like I'm not as much their best friend as they are mine. I look around. The only open seat left is beside this kid I don't know. He looks kind of creepy almost like a sociopath. His hair is lowered over his eye. He is wearing a black jacket with a black beanie. He has this look on his face I can't describe. I swear if I have to sit next to a creep for a whole year. I'm hoping he's not a creep. I ask if I can sit there sociopath or not a should be nice. He looks startled and surprised. I see his eyes have a glimmer of hope as he says I can sit there. He introduces himself. He says he just moved here from California and his name is Ayden. I tell him my name and the teacher tells us to be quiet.
Ayden's POV
It's my first day of sophomore year! The Heathers reference was intended. My first class is Creative Writing. I choose a seat in the back, no one sits on the back. I watch as everyone walks to a seat with their friends. I'm lost in thought when this girl walks up. She has brown hair, with some blonde streaks in it. She has a nice green sweater on. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks 60 degrees is cold. She asks if she can sit beside. There are no other seats left, so what am I gonna do say no. I say yes. She looks really scared at first then she looks a bit more confident when she sits down. I introduce myself and tell her where I'm from. She tells me her name is Bridget. Then, class starts.
At Lunch
Bridget's POV
I walk over to my usual table. My friends are sitting there, except there's someone sitting in my seat. When I go to sit across from her, they say I can't sit there because that's where they're boyfriends sit. All the other seats at that table are taken. I start to cry and run off. I run into Ayden, the last person I want to see right now. The second time I've startled him in one day. He asks what's wrong and panicking I shout through tears, "PERIOD!" The whole cafeteria laughs. He offers to buy me a snack at the ice cream stand. I tell him I'm fine.
"I know this sounds really stupid, but can I sit with you?" he asks.
I reply with, "You let me sit with you. Now let's find a table."
He looks grateful and scared. I think he thought I had a normal table. We find a table with no one at it and we sit. I've stopped crying.
"My sister always stuffs pads in my bag if you need one," he says.
I feel really embarrassed. I tell him why I was actually crying.
"That sucks. Well I bet you have lots of other friends. Just ditch them."
"Actually no they are my only two friends except you."
He blushes and says, "Really. You think... I mean really a girl like you would be the most popular girl in school. You think we're friends. Sorry you're my first friend."
I laugh and say, "You're my first real one."
He blushes again. His cheeks are this perfect pink when he blushes. His lips curl into this little smile, which is adorable. I'm going to keep making him blush. We talk and we realize we have the same schedule. Today's going to be a great day.
After School
Aydens POV
Bridget and I spent the entire day together. We have every class together. I'm glad I made a friend on my first day. As we walk out, Bridget asks for my number, so we can talk after school. She also asks if I want to go get some ice cream. I say sure and give her my number. She drives us to an ice cream shop. She stops dead in her tracks as she opens the door. These girls look at her and are like, "OMG you have a boyfriend. Wow! I knew you were desperate but I didn't think you were that desperate."
"Well, thanks. I really appreciate that," I say in a sarcastic tone.
"He's cute. Shut up Rain!" says one of the girls.
The other girl, Rain, says, "My boyfriend's cuter."
"Bridget do you want to sit with us tomorrow?" the girl asks. There goes my one and only friend.
"Nah, I'll sit with my real friend, Ayden." Bridget says smugly and walks to a table. I follow her.
" Wow, what great people," I say.
"Those are the girls I told you about earlier."
"Really. If you want to sit with them tomorrow you can. I'll be fine." I feel my cheeks turn red. Why does this girl make me blush?
"Why would I sit with them, when I could sit with my best friend?" I blush again. My eyes start to water.
"I have to go to the bathroom," I say loudly. I run to the bathroom, and wipe my eyes in the mirror. More tears start to flow. I can't stop. This girl just called me her best friend. I'm so happy I could die. I stay in there for like ten minutes until my eyes are dry.
Bridget's POV
He's been gone for so long. He probably ran away. I feel my eyes start to water. I bury my head in my arms. What did I do wrong? My ice cream comes. Ayden's comes too. Then, I see him walk out of the bathroom. I know my eyes light up with joy and my cheeks turn red. He sees me, and he blushes too. Oh my gosh I almost took out my phone to take a picture. I love his blushing. It's sad it only lasts for a couple seconds.
"Ooh our ice cream's here." I notice there's a weird tone to his voice almost like he's about to cry.
"Yeah, you ok? You sound different."
"Oh yeah I'm fine. It's just...." he rubs his face. "I have never had a friend before. I just couldn't.... agh... I... I freaked out when you called me your best friend. I sound really pathetic. I'm sorry."
"Really that's all it was. I thought you ran away. I thought you hated me. You're not pathetic." We get up and hug it out.
We eat our ice cream, and we get in my car and I drive him home. He only lives 5 blocks away from me. I go home and tell my brothers picture all about my day. I wish he was here for me to tell him. I used to call his number just to hear his voicemail, but now it's someone else's number.
Ayden's POV
After Bridget drives me home. I describe my day in detail to my wall. Sometimes I imagine someone lives in my wall. This is a new wall though. My sister hears me.
"Do you have a girlfriend? OMG yay!!!! We need to celebrate. We celebrated my first boyfriend."
"No, I don't have a girlfriend. I just have a friend who happens to be feminine."
"OMG you have a friend. This is amazing! We really need to celebrate. MOM! DAD! AYDEN MADE A FRIEND!"
My parents run into my room and ask for details. I tell them all about my day over dinner. Then, I go back to my room. I have a text from Bridget.
Hey
Hey
Do you want a ride to school tomorrow?
Sure
Great. I'll see you tomorrow then. ❤️
Ok see you tomorrow.
She sent a heart. I'm internally freaking out.
OMG I'm sorry my heart is right next to my smiley face. I'm sorry. I'm so embarrassed.
You're fine.
It was an accident. Oh well. No need to freak out. Just chill.
