Hans had stared out his window the entire night. He watched as the sun broke through the darkness in a whirl wind burst of bright color. The color spread, and faded into a horizon, as a dark orange sun rose and became lighter, and lighter until yellow in color, high in the sky. His bright eyes were dull today. Purple bags under his eyes- a result of a sleepless night filled with tears and frustration. When Elsa came with his breakfast- scrambled eggs and a single piece of toast and a glass of water, he hardly flinched. Her failed to notice her presence as well. Elsa stared at him. "Good Morning." She broke the silence between them. He snapped out of his trance, and turned to see Elsa unlocking the cell door- tray of food in hand. Elsa looked at the purple bags under his eyes. "Didn't get much sleep huh?" She asked him. "Not even a wink." He laughed a little. Truthfully Elsa had only gotten a few hours if sleep herself, but her bright eyes and warm smile said otherwise. Elsa stared down at her gloved hands. She wanted to rip them off, and shred them to pieces. But, she knew that for the good of Arendelle and Anna she had to keep them on. Hans looked at her gloved hands. "Why not take your gloves off?" He said to her. "I can't- I'll wind up freezing the entire castle or hurting you or Anna and-" Hans cut her off "How will you know if you don't even try?" He asked her. Elsa took off her heavy gloves slowly, revealing her delicate hands that had only seen the sun on a few occasions. She slipped her gloves inside her pocket. Her hands for once were not clammy and sweat covered, but free to breath. She smiled at this, content. For once, she felt comfortable in her own skin. Elsa knew all good things must come to end, and began to put the suffocating gloves on her hands once again. "Elsa, wait. You won't hurt anyone. You don't need to be afraid anymore." He said reassuringly. "Oh really, how do you know?" She asked in a cocky tone. "Come closer and I'll show you." He stated. Elsa took a step forward, and Hans held onto her hands. "See? Look, I'm perfectly fine." He said to her. Hand in hand they gazed into each other's tired eyes, working to solve the riddle behind their stares. Elsa let go, and picked up the tray. "See you at lunch Hans." She said simply, and once again Hans heard that slam and click of the door.
