Golden eyes Eevee, just like you.
Champ's words rang out in my head as I sat my desk, my paw tapping the wooden surface in deep thought. Champ's wounds had been treated after he had told me the news, and I had told my friends, but no one else. I had left for my room, which used to be a chemistry lab, wondering what to do.
I heard a knock at the door, and absentmindedly called, "Come in."
Zoura poked his head through the door, and grinned at me.
"Hey, what'cha doing?" He asked, walking over to me and sitting down. I let out a sigh, my paw scratching down the desk.
"Thinking about what the heck I should do." I answered, stress eating away at my insides.
"Hey, there are two choices here, either send someone to check this crazy story out, or leave it be." He said, raising two paws up. I sighed and rested my head on the desk.
"Now you made me feel like I was stressing over nothing." He chuckled.
"You kinda were."
"Shut up." I mumbled. He laughed and shoved my shoulder.
"Come oooonnnn! Everyone is busy! Pidgey's swamped with work, Char is visiting the infirmary with Kip and Snivy is bleeding some poor troops dry. Let's go do something!" He had childish delight in his blue eyes.
"Zoura, I'm the leader of a new civilization, just starting out. I've recently uncovered a conspiracy involving a cult bent on world domination, and you want to go play?" I asked him, eyeing him reproachfully.
"Exactly. Now come ooonnn!" He begged tugging at my arm.
"No." I answered, turning back to the desk. Zoura put his head on my shoulder.
"Now?"
"No."
He nibbled on my ear, "Now?"
"No."
He turned into a Lilipup and made an adorable face at me, "Now?"
I sighed and sat up. "Fine, but can we at least go somewhere quiet so I can think?" His eyes lit up and he changed back to his normal form.
"Done. I know the perfect spot." We walked outside when he stopped me. "Wait! I've been working on this trick." His body suddenly changed into a massive Arcanine. It lowered it's head and smiled at me.
I let out a snort of surprise and jumped back while Zoura laughed in a deep unfamiliar voice. Without warning, he scooped me up with a massive orange and black paw and placed me on his back.
"ZOURA I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" I yelled, holding on while he laughed again, galloping through the woods and dragging me along for the ride.

The jerk finally set me down after the ride. I had no clue where I was since fur had been in my eyes. "Zoura I swear..." My warning was cut off when I saw the sight before me. We were on the mountain of the island, on the edge of the cliff, overlooking everything.
The sunset today swirled pink and orange, seeming to set the sea on fire. Zoura changed back to his real form and cheekily smiled at me. "Well? Don't I know how to pick a spot or what?"
I was quiet for a moment. He had dragged me away from my job, kidnapped me, to take me to a beautiful setting. It was so crazy, so strange, so, so...Zoura.
"Okay... maybe I won't kill you." I reluctantly admitted and he laughed and practically sat on top of me. I sighed and leaned my head on his shoulder. "What should I do. This mission is way too important to leave to some rookies." Zoura shrugged.
"Then why we don't go ourselves?" I looked at him.
"Are you serious?" He shrugged again.
"Charmander could probably watch things over here while your gone, and the rest of us could come. It would be like old times."
A smile flitted on my lips. "Yeah. Basculin attacks and Ferris wheel fights. The good old days." Zoura barked a laugh. I wasn't sure about this idea though. "Really, Charmander? I love him but I don't really know if he's the leader type." I ran over the list of trusted Pokemon in my head.
We would need Pidgey's brains for the mission, Mudkip was way too young, and Snivy was going to want to come with us for sure.
"What about Lieutenant Luxray? He's a level headed guy. A little military fashioned but knows how to follow orders and take a punch." Zoura suggested. I could see it in his eyes, he wanted this adventure so badly, it hurt.
Part of me wanted it too, to shrug off these responsibilities and run away, even if I was coming back. It was like, someone had just handed me a really ugly baby, and told me, hold it, this is yours now. And this baby was smelly and wet and cried at everything, and I really wanted to drop it and run.
But I couldn't.
I inhaled the smell of the woods around me. I caught the whiff of Zoura's fur; he smelled like growing things and had that deep, mysterious, unidentifiable smell that all dark types have. It smelled like mischief.
"So, we're really going to do this?" I asked him. He grinned.
"You're the leader, you tell me." I raised my face to the wind.
Down in the valley below us, the refugees danced in the golden sunset, like they did at the end of every day. They were saying goodbye to the sun. I smiled just a bit as the last rays of golden light touched my fur and made way for the stars.
"I say, let the adventure begin." Zoura wrapped his tail around mine, as the stars chased the sun away, and the Pokemon howled at the moon.
