As soon as I got home, I heard a familiar ring from my pocket.

“Ariana Grande Answer / Decline”

Uhm, who would decline? So I answered.

“Hey Ari,” I said.

“Hi Kendall, I just wanted to make sure I got the right number. Are you home yet?”

“Yeah I just got onto my couch,”

“Oh okay that’s good. I don’t want to sound too desperate but did you find anyone yet for the thing?”

“I’ve been asking all of my friends all over america, posting up a flier on the store board, and I’ve been uploading tweets, photos, and status updates about our search, but still no one.”

“Oh Kendall, thank you so much. Now about that.. I’m not sure that I’m going to be able to make this up to my fans..” Said Ariana.

“No Ari! I will find a way by the latest, tonight.” I said.

“You’re the best Kenall, I don’t know how to make it up to you.”

“Ari, you’re a star. Everyone knows you all over the world, heck if you talked to a flight attendant they would get you a first class ticket to Europe! For a genuine, humble, and kind person like you, I would do the best to help you for anything you need,” I said honestly.

“...” Ariana said nothing.

“Ari?” I asked.

“I have nothing to say but thank you. Truly, thank you so much,” Said Ariana finally.

And then we said our goodbyes and hung up. Okay now it was time to get working. This time, I decided to check on all my relatives and their friends one by one to see if anyone was a vocalist of any kind. To the bestest of my luck, all of our conversations went something like this.

“Hi I’m your relative from your dad’s side, one of the Wood’s, and I might have seen you when I was younger, but I’ve heard that my grandma met you once before.” I said.

“Nice to meet you.”

“I just wanted to ask, are you vocalist of any sort? Do you know anything about singing, maybe harmonizing..”

“I’m sorry, excuse me?”

“Uhm, it was nice to have your acquaintance, goodbye,”

“...”

And then I heard the numb sound of the beeping phone line again, and again. I had absolutely no luck. At around 10, I was looking at my old pictures with no deep thoughts and that was when I had a vague memory play back inside my mind. It was me at my elementary school talent show. I had just finished my performance about something and was holding a mic in my hand. A mic? I felt the warm spotlight on my face and smiled, reviving the faint memory. Then I heard the roar of the audience surround me in claps, and cheers.

I remembered what it felt like to be on stage; to sing. It was still in me the passion, I just don’t like to show it. I still sing 24 hours a day, but I didn’t notice actually. It was just so natural for me growing up and still is now. I checked the time to see if it wasn’t too late.

“11:59”

I quickly dialled Ariana’s number.

“Hello? Oh kendall it’s you!” She said with excitement.

“Ariana, this might not exactly be the answer you’ve been waiting for,” I said a little bit unsure.

“Don’t worry, I’m sure it’s all good,”

“Ariana, I found the person who will fill in for your show,” I said, “It’s me.”
