Chapter 7

Becoming stronger

As Emma makes her way back to her seat she realizes how strong she has become in making her voice be heard. She finally was able to release everything to Jack and someone who she barely knew. Two things she was unable to do before this day. Once she takes her seat she stares straight into Cal's eyes he gives her a wink. "Everything is going to change now Mirene. He will never say another word to you again unless it is sorry," she pauses thinking then she looks at Cal sitting next to her and says, "Thanks for talking to me thats what gave me the confidence something about you made me trust you. I told you everything about that and I never expressed my feelings to anyone. No one else understands. Cal your girlfriend is lucky. I never trusted someone like this before!"

Cal smiles and replies "No problem sweetheart. I know that life and I have never told anyone either not even Talia she only knows about the last couple. I hate that you have to go through all that because I have been there. You did something I could never do. You spoke up and Tina thats the strength I wish I had!"Emma smiles  she has never been told that ever. She has never talked to someone like she has with him other than the other foster kids at Sunnyside.

She says with the smile planted on her face "You are the first person I have really trusted other than my sister. You are a great person and I appreciate you listening to me and helping and understanding. I am thankful to have someone else to trust!" He just smiles at me and looks stares in my eyes like he heard my deepest secret. To be honest he has heard my deepest secret. Just then Talia walks in followed by Greg and some men wearing hoodies and sweats and had scruffy faces with pale skin. Their hair covered the rest of their faces.

"Ralph and Greg take care of their investigation I need to finish with these three,"She gestures toward Emma and Mirene. "Where is Jack?" she asks.

Cal speaks before either of the girls can, "He is back in his investigation room because he tried to leave and Emma stood up to the jerk."

"Is that so so?" she turns towards her and smirks some.

"Yes, I am tired of people like him treating my sister and I like a piece of trash. We have done nothing to deserve that and I have reached my breaking point. Talia please help us," I say and I almost start to cry, "I have done all I can to be a strong older sister but I can not keep doing this," the tears are now falling. Before Talia even has a chance Cal comes swiftly towards me and wraps his arms around her. His hand caresses her hair and she can not help but slightly smile but the tears still race down her cheek.

"It will all be ok," Cal keeps repeating to Emma and she wraps her arms even tighter around him never wanting to let go. He slyly lets go of me but holds my hands close to his heart and whispers, "I will protect you Emma along with your sister!" That is what she has always wanted to hear but how? How in the world could this very attractive young man as old as me protect them? But she believes him because of these deep strong feelings she has for him. She buries herself  in his chest in tears. His heart beats as fast as hers then it skips a beat and another and another. That is when she knows he feels it too.

"How," she finally gains the courage to ask him as she breaks away from his sweet embrace.

"I just will. I care about you a lot I know I barely know you but I understand this pain. I have never been able to talk to someone about anything as much as I can talk and trust you Emma. Granted I have no idea what it is like to stand up or care about someone this much but I have learned both today," he says and finally looks toward her eyes again and she can tell he means it all.

"Well, son I will do everything in my power to get her a safe home but now she must go back to the foster center," Talia says as she wisps Emma and Mirene around. They start walking outside. Emma runs straight back to Cal.
