Chapter 14The only way to go is up
As soon as Emma walks in vacant stares comes from the left and the right as she brings him in.
"What is this you literally have one job?" Talia says looking from Emma to Kalmin.
"I saw a cold case that could be unmasked an neither of you were here and the others were on their breaks if we had longer he could have killed her," Emma says defensively.
"So you think you can run off, you ask anyone else here before you go there yourself,"Talia says then staring at Kalmins. "You know this and should have stopped her and volunteered."
"I figured she should learn the hard way that it takes a lot more to be a real cop around here," he says smartly.
"We are all real cops and you let her blacken her reputation which means yours is blackened as well hot shot," Talia says writing both their names on her lined yellow paper she had in her side pocket.
"That is not fair ma'a, it was my responsibility not his, my choice. I did the pursuit he had no idea," Emma says quickly.
" We are a team and if one member fails to do their job we are all at fault,"Talia says as she walks straight past her.
"Both of you my office now, Philip take care of him," Talia says as Emma releases the cuffs and walks behind Talia and Kalmin.
"How could you let her get away with this she is your friend right?" Talia asks Kalmin as softly as possible.
"She was curious about a case and found something in twenty minutes we could not find in twenty days, I could not just take credit for all that," he says admitting the truth.
"It is your job to keep the noobs in line and telling them what to do not the other way around are you proud of this action because I sure am not," Talia says infuriated now as he is still grinning.
"You are just jealous she cracked it and not you," he says then waltzing out of the door.
"He is lucky I love him otherwise that would be his job,"Talia says.
"Congratulations on finding him you have yourself a reputatoin now, as do I. I cannot let you sit there behind the desk all day while you have these job skills so you are not our forensics analyst and cold case breaker. You will look and see if there is any cold cases you can solve and when we come back with a case you will analyze the data and look for clues as to who may have done it and what with," Talia says.
"Same desk?" Emma asks.
"You know it but do not get too used to it you will not be using it much trust me," Talia says with a smirk.
"Why will I be more in the field now?" Emma asks already knowing the answer to her own question.
"Yes beginning now take a look at this dead man wounds say suicide but his reputation says otherwise," Talia says.
"Do I get a partner, badge, anything?" Emma asks
"They are in your locker next to Kalmin's today was a test and you passed and Kal is your partner no sex in the car please," Talia says winking at Kal.
"It is not like that I have my eyes on someone else," Emma says too defensively.
"Oh really? Who would it be that boy Seamus who was dating a super model?" Kal asks.
"She was a showgirl and they broke up by the way." Emma says with a smirk.
"So it is him," he asks as they make their way to their lockers.
"Yes it is now turn around while I change," she says and she strips and changes quickly not trusting anyone.
"Done, okay you can tell it was not suicide just look at where the wound is he would have had to been able to stretch out his left arm and thrust it in his stomach in and up. He could not do this however because he had a broken arm. Lets go to the scene and gather the knife and see what else he finds. Angie do a background check look for anyone who may have a feud with this poor man," Emma says already taking charge.
"Kevin give her raise," Talia says looking towards the man actually in charge of pay and money here.
"This was no suicide was it," Kal asks.
"It was murder, we are going to find who and why?" Emma asks smirking taking the keys to go and drive to the scene waiting for her impressed looking partner.
"Sounds good where to first partner?" Kal asks.
"The scene which is Medley park of course, why is the murders always have to be a park," she asks.
"I do not know," Kal retorts as they both get into the car quickly as possible turning the lights on so they can get there before the evidence is gone.
Once there Emma goes to the trunk and pulls out the yellow caution tape to mark the area and surrounds it by tying it off on a trinity of trees that happen to be right where the scene was. Kal already has his Nikon out taking pictures of the evidence and moving the body in the bag for autopsy. Before Emma can gather the knife a woman comes by.
"Excuse me, what are you doing to my husband," she says shaking.
"I am taking him downtown for autopsy ma'am," Kal says before Emma can get a word in edgewise. She puts on gloves grabs the knife and what appears to be his last meal.
"It was suicide," she said balling her eyes out now as loudly as a woman ever could.
"Not by those wound marks besides did he even have a reason as far as you know to commit suicide," Emma asks pulling out a notebook to jot down some notes.
"He has had depression the past eight years and lately it has gotten worse ever since our daughter died in May, he lost his job in June and I got a voicemail from his aunt saying her daughter committed suicide do to bullying," she said and Emma noting every single word she was saying.
"Well we just need to double check because there has not been any full tests done and no witnesses to say it was suicide," Kal said.
"That is true it was the one evening no one went to the park because it Friday the 13th, every criminal's purge night," she said in a whimpering voice and then silently walking away
"This may have just gotten more complicated," Emma says. She has done several case studies on murders on Friday the 13th no murderer has a pattern it is slashings and unplanned killings all the time with different weapons all the time. This murderer could be any criminal that has been released.
