Third eye

It was a strangely quiet night in the septic cabin. From his seat on the couch, Marvin could see snow gently falling outside, He sat cross legged, with a blanket draped over his shoulders, a cup of hot chocolate in his hands, just watching the lights of the Christmas tree. The other egos were all in bed by now, even Anti was in for the night.

Marvin felt himself dozing off a few times, but he kept himself awake, quietly humming Christmas tunes to himself. He wanted to stay up a little later. He liked watching little piles of snow accumulate on the window sill, only to be blown away by the cold air.

He thought about finally going to bed, when suddenly the sound of a lock turning caught his attention. Confused and slightly scared, Marvin threw on his mask, and peaked into the dining room where he could see the front door. The door quietly opened and a figure quickly stepped in, obviously trying to be sneaky. Marvin narrowed his eyebrows. "Chase?" He called out, turning on the lights.

The other ego stood with his hands behind his back, looking over at the magician nervously. "Marvin! What are you still doing up?" He was obviously trying to distract from something.

Marvin looked at him, trying to see behind Chase's back. "I was just sitting in the living room. I thought you were in your room. Where have you been?" Marvin asked, stepping a little closer. Chase simply side stepped around him, never turning his back to the young ego.

"Oh, well I just thought I'd take a little night time stroll. I'm feeling kinda tired so I think I'll get to bed," Chase turned, holding his hands in front of himself, away from Marvin's view now.

Marvin sighed heavily. He really didn't want to waste his energy this late, but he was worried about Chase. So he closed his eyes, concentrating. A wave of pain hit him and he opened his eyes. "Ok but if you don't let me help you," He said, as the other was almost out of ear's reach. "Then at least let Schneeplestein look at that wrist."

Chase froze in his place. He turned his head to Marvin. "What are you," He started, but Marvin just held out his hand. Chase turned his whole body, letting Marvin examine his hand. Chase's right hand was bruised and swollen to nearly twice its size. Marvin shook his head.

"Go sit on the couch I'll get some ice and the first aid kit," Marvin disappeared into the kitchen, leaving Chase baffled. Shaking his head he just went to the living room and waited for Marvin.

Marvin turned on the side table lamp, gently looking over Chase's hand. Chase winced when the ice came in contact. "Sorry," Marvin muttered, setting the ice aside for now. The two were silent for a while, not making eye contact once. "So," Marvin said, still looking down. "You wanna tell me who you punched?" Chase looked at him shocked. Was that a guess? Or did he somehow know. "I hope the other guy at least looks worse."

Chase chuckled slightly under his breath. "I wish," He muttered. Marvin looked Chase in the eyes. He had an embarrassed look on his face.

The magician's face dropped. "No. Chase you didn't!" He said slightly raising his voice. Chase looked away saying nothing. "Chase please tell me you didn't try to talk to Stacey again. You know who she's with now. He'd break you in half! What were you thinking?"

Chase had a sheepish look on his face. "I just wanna see my kids," He mumbled. Marvin could see tears forming in his eyes. Marvin sat back, rubbing his forehead. He had no idea how Chase felt right now. There was no way he could understand. He didn't have a family like that. Nor a life outside of the rest of the egos.

Marvin rubbed his eyes under his mask. "god Chase, I'm sorry. I know you miss your family, but you can't be going out in the middle of the night picking fights with Stacey's new boyfriend," Chase looked down, back at his bruised wrist. He knew Marvin was right. He had somehow found himself in this position of leadership, he had to think about his new family now.

Chase nodded. "I'm sorry Marv, I'll be smarter about this. Please don't tell the others about this," he asked.

Marvin chuckled. "I won't have to. I'm sure we'll all be feeling that in the morning," the magician reached out and gently held his wrist. "This should help a little," he cupped his hand and cast a healing spell. There was a blue glow for a few seconds and then it faded. "There, it didn't heal it completely but it'll help the pain," He explained.

Chase smiled. "Yeah it feels a little better now. Thanks Marvin."

Marvin stood up and stretched. "Don't mention it. Now get to bed okay," he cleaned up the first aid kit, leaving the ice pack with Chase.

As he was bringing back the kit though, Chase came in the kitchen behind him. "hey Marv, how'd you know I hurt my wrist? Or even that I punched someone?" He asked. Marvin walked to the other. Almost passing him, but stopping and putting a hand on his shoulder.

"Magic buddy. Now go to sleep," and with that he returned to his room. Chase, deciding not to argue, soon followed suit.

In his bedroom, Marvin flicked on the lamp by his bed and removed his mask. He observed himself in the mirror then pushed his bangs out of his face. They we're still green, he kept the bright color even after Sean changed it back. Marvin quickly looked over his shoulder, knowing he was alone, but just out of paranoia. When he knew for a fact the coast was clear, he took a deep breath and relaxed. When he looked back at the mirror, his attention was drawn to the space between his eyebrows, where the skin opened revealing a third eye. The eye was bright green with a blue iris. Marvin could see it was slightly bloodshot. He overused his sight powers.

Marvin rubbed the side of his head, his other eye closing as he placed his hair over the slit again. You couldn't even see it now, but even as it was closed, and Marvin rested his head against his pillow, the eye could still see Chase, watching and protecting him throughout the night
