Chapter 5

Madi's POV:

We were all packed and ready to go, so I opened the door and stepped out. I saw a car in my driveway, and immediately recognised it. A farmiliar redhead stepped out of the driver's seat. I dropped my bags and yelled, "Jade!!" I ran to her and we hugged for a while.

"Who's this?" I heard Jay ask from behind me.

"Oh," Jade squirmed out of my grip and held her hand out for Jay to shake, "I'm Jade... And you are?"

"Jay..." He said as he shook her hand. Jade looked at me and raised her eyebrows.

"Alright, basically, Jade, Jay is my best friend from back in Nottingham. And Jay, Jade is my best friend here," I turned to Jade, "Who is currently supposed to be visiting her family in Florida."

"I came back early!" She noticed all of the bags, "Where are you guys going?"

"Ummmm... Road Trip??"

She looked confused, "Sounds more like a question than an answer... What's going on?"

I swallowed. I knew I couldn't hide anything from Jade, but we were supposed to be on the road right now. And what would she think of me if I told her that while she was gone, I reunited with my criminal best friend and became a criminal myself. "Uuuhhh... I... We..." I stuttered.

Jay didn't dare say anything either. Jade looked between us, "Are you guys in trouble or something?" I opened my mouth to say something, but realized I couldn't think of anything to say. "Madi, talk to me... I'm getting worried..."

I grabbed her hand and dragged her inside the door and shut it behind us. "Promise you won't tell anyone? Like, this is life or death. And I can only tell you if you PROMISE not to tell anyone."

She looked even more worried, but nodded anyway. Just then, the other boys walked into the room. "Oh. Hi," Nathan said. Jade didn't pay any attention to him, though. She was too busy waiting for me to explain.

"Alright if I talk to Jade in private, guys?" I asked. They all nodded and left. Jay grabbed my hand and gave it a tight squeeze before he followed them. I grabbed Jade's hand and dragged her into my bedroom before closing and locking the door.

I took a deep breath and started, "Alright, basically, Jay had a hard childhood. You know, bullying and stuff. I was his best friend, and I helped him through it, but apparently, after I left, it all got worse. And he... got his revenge. But he doesn't have the heart to hurt someone physically, so he just, like, stole their stuff." I continued by telling her all about how Jay called and I let them stay over to my lies and how now we're all criminals, and now we have to leave. After I finished, I took a deep breath and studied her reaction.

She was speechless. There was still worry in her eyes and her jaw was dropped just slighlty. "Oh My God, Mads. That's some story..." I nodded. She took a deep breath, "I guess you wouldn't consider taking me with you...?"

"What?! Are you stupid? It's way too dangerous. We got ourselves into this mess, we're going to get ourselves out of it. We're not gonna drag you down with us,"

She looked me straight in the eyes, "But you're my best friend. And I love you to death, and I won't just let you go knowing that I could've helped keep you safe,"

"But your family-"

"My family's in Florida. And it's not like they give a damn about me anyway,"

"Jade-"

"You know I would be able to help, Mads. I've got connections."

"J-"

"Please." She looked me straight in the eyes, "Please, just let me go. You know you'll need a girl with you on the road with five guys. And my family's rich. I've got plenty of money we can use to get wherever it is that we're going and... and... and I just can't live without you, Madi." She had tears in her eyes, threatening to spill over. She ran a hand through her red hair and looked down.

I sighed and wrapped my arms around her. She hugged me back and I could feel my shoulder getting wet. "Jade, hun. Stop, you're going to smudge your mascara..." She sniffled and lifted her head, looking me in the eyes. "We can... Talk to the boys about it..."

"Thank you!" She hugged me once again and opened the door, eager to meet the guys and try to convince them. We walked out to the living room together to see the guys all staring back at us.

"So...?" Jay said.

"Would you guys be up for taking Jade with us?" I got to the point immediately.

Nathan studied Jade for a minute before looking deep into her eyes. Almost as if he was checking to see if he can trust her. "Fine with me," he said finally.

Tom and Siva just shrugged. Max said, "I don't see a problem with it,"

We all turned to Jay, "Jay? That alright with you?" I asked.

He looked at all of our expectant faces before he turned to me, "We can trust her? 100%?" He asked me. I nodded. He sighed. "Yeah, alright,"

Jade did a miniature happy dance. Nathan chuckled at her before getting up and offering her his hand, "I'm Nathan," he said. Jade ignored his hand and threw her arms around his neck.
