"Let's just take this one step at a time." Suggested Susie. "Do you want to be a superhero?"
"Yeah." Emalie said quickly.
"Do you want your identity to be well-known like Iron Man or secretive like Clark Kent?"
"Both." said Emalie. "I want to have at least some privacy, but also feel appreciated."
"The Best of Both Worlds." said Sarah with a smile. "So you're obviously going to need a new name and a disguise." Susie pointed out.
"Way ahead of you." Emalie replied. Everyone looked at her, surprised.
They waited for her to declare her new identity. When she didn't immediately start talking, everyone got antsy.
"Well, what is it?" Walter shouted, surprising everyone. He has always loved comics and animation though, and he dreams of making a movie one day.
"Rainbow Girl." Emalie finally answered. "Huh?" Everyone said at once. Then they all laughed. Six people all saying the same thing at once doesn't happen very often after all.
"So you wanna base a whole look, career and personality on a piece of mist and sun?" Gordon asked with a sneer. "Wouldn't it be hard to hide from bad guys if you were really colorful?" Jake pointed out.
"Who needs to hide when I can turn invisible?" Emalie reasoned. "Why Rainbow Girl anyways?" Sarah asked. "You have so many cool animal powers. Why not Animal Girl or something?"
"Why Rainbow Girl?" Emalie repeated. "Well, for one thing rainbows represent God's promise to protect us from flooding the entire Earth. I feel like being Rainbow Girl will be my promise to try my hardest to protect the world from other things."
"Wow." Said Sarah. "And I've always loved rainbows." Emalie continued.
"I like to think of them as lots of colors coming together peacefully, stronger together than they could ever be apart. More beautiful connected than they could ever be separated. Like the world.
So many people from so many places. If only everyone would stop trying to figure out what part of the rainbow is the best part, and realize that we're all the best part. Most people will always have a favorite color, but mine will always be rainbow."
"Wow." Whispered Suzie.
"And it also makes me think about how rainbows are formed. With the sun and the rain." Emalie continued. "Both can be considered either good or bad. The sun can help things grow, but it can also cause drought. The rain can hydrate, but it can also cause flooding. Kind of like my kidnappers."
"Really? What do you mean?" Asked Shannon.
"Well, they kidnapped me, right? Most people would consider that to be bad. But what if it wasn't?" Emalie asked. "They were going to try to completely control me! Does that make them bad people? Pretty much, yeah.
But they gave me superpowers! They actually gave me the ability to be a superhero and help so many people! Even though it was meant to be something bad, it turned into something amazingly good!
That happens with other things too." Emalie declared. "Like sun and rain?" Asked Shannon. "No, I mean with life! Like when bad things happen to good people. Sometimes they're meant to be good things, but we just don't see it like that." Emalie replied.
"Like when my bunny ran away!" Sarah exclaimed. "She came back with little baby bunnies."
"Exactly!" Emalie agreed. "Sometimes we just have to see the cloud's silver lining! The sunny side of things! The glass of rainwater half full!"
"Are you about done?" Gordon interrupted impatiently.
"Yeah, there's just so many good meanings of rainbows. And I think that the world has forgotten them all! And I am going to change that!" Emalie promised.
Everyone was speechless for a moment, and then, before anyone could respond, they all heard the bell on the front door jingle. To Be Continued...
