ABTS 2: Chances

Wait.. What ???

Alex's POV

"Um, you're joking," Simon says after many moments of very uncomfortable silence.

I try to process what JJ had just said, but I would never expect anything like this from him.

JJ replies, "I wish I were."

I glare at JJ and say, "Why the hell are you talking to her!?"

My anger is rising and I think the guys can notice, the room is too eerie.

"We ran into each other at a bar once and she seemed like a better person so I kinda let her back into my life. I-I'm sorry, Alex-," JJ starts.

"Don't even start with that 'I'm sorry, Alex' bullshit," I say mockingly, "Do you realize what this means? She literally hates my guts and now she knows very valuable pieces of information about me. You're so stupid, JJ!"

"I'm sorry!" JJ begs.

I am about to yell again but then Josh cuts me off.

"Okay, wait," the room is silent, everyone waits for Josh to continue, "What exactly did you tell her, JJ?"

"Well, all I said was that Alex was back and she didn't seem too bothered by it," JJ replies.

"Okay, dumbass so you didn't tell her about Hannah?" Ethan spits at JJ.

JJ thinks for a second and shakes his head 'no'.

Everyone sighs and Tobi says, "JJ, if she doesn't know about Hannah, then there's no way she could've accused Alex."

"Oh," JJ replies sitting there defeated. Everyone collectively mutters insults towards JJ under their breaths.

We all sit there thinking again. It really sucks to think that someone you know had snaked you like that, it's a horrible feeling.

"I'm tired of this," I say to break the silence. "Whoever it is will get karma, so I don't care."

"Fair enough," Harry says. The other guys seem to accept the fact that none of us are smart enough to figure it out and agree with me.

I get up and go to the kitchen, as I walk past JJ, I give him a nasty glare for talking to Rebecca. He looks up at me with sorry eyes but I just keep walking.

I walk into the kitchen and my attention is immediately brought to the window in there that is broken. I look at it with confusion, trying to think if any of the guys mentioned that they broke the window.

"Hey guys!" I shout with suspicion because something about there being a broken window here makes me feel uneasy.

I turn around to head back to the living room to tell them, but a man, dressed in a giant grey hoodie and long black sweatpants with a ski mask over their head was standing there, staring at me.

"Oh my God," I say under my breath and start to back away. The man stays where he is and doesn't say anything, he appears to have no weapon but he's staring at me creepily. I look around me for something to grab to throw at him, but that is when he starts walking towards me and I scream.

"AHHHH!"

The man grabs me quick but I try and punch him and bite him. It works well, but it's not enough to get away.

I hear frantic footsteps running in and all the guys appear in the doorway. JJ, Harry, and Josh in the front. I watch as their faces drop and sheer terror grows on their faces. There's frantic yelling and vulgar words spat out by the boys. JJ and Harry immediately run towards me and the man struggling and pull him off. Ethan helps along with Tobi, but it's really frantic. Simon, Vik, and Josh come over to me.

"Are you okay?" Josh asks and stands in front of me.

"Yeah! I'm fine, what's happening?" I stay, still kind of in a shock.

Simon is standing on Josh's right and Vik on his left, so they're all kind of surrounding me since that guy clearly had a target to get me. Josh turns around to look at the struggling boys and I catch a glimpse over his shoulder and see JJ punching the guy in the face. All of them are yelling at each other.

Josh turns back to me and nervously says, "Oh, nothing. Should I call the police?"

"Do you know that guy?" Vik asks, out of breath like he just saved the entire world but he literally did nothing.

Before I can answer, Simon interjects, "How is she supposed to know, dummy. He has a mask on."

Vik shrugs. I push past Josh and walk towards the struggling boys. Josh, Simon, and Vik yell at me to stay back but I ignore them

"Hey!" I shout, causing the fighting to stop and they all stand back and look at me. The guy who broke in is weak and is laying against the counter with JJ, Ethan, Tobi, and Harry standing over him.

I walk closer to them and I grab the intruder's ski mask. I rip it off without a second thought about it and drop it right when I see who it is. My mouth drops in confusion and disbelief. He's bloody, bruised, and doesn't look too good.

"Zach!?"
