day 10
3rd pov

rachel woke up on the bed, which is funny because she remembered peter falling asleep on the bed. her back had felt better, but it was still throbbing.

peter was sitting on a chair in the corner of the room. his hoodie was over his hair, and his eyes still drooped like he was stuck staring at one thing forever. when he glanced over at rachel, noticing she was awake, he walked over and sat next to her.

"how are you feeling? does you back-"

"i'm ok. it's fine," she said abruptly. the watch on her wrist showed the time as 9:17 am. it felt as if no time has passed.

silence laid among them like a thick sheet of snow. the skylight was dark, letting in little to no light. it was a cloudy day, and she didn't know what to think of it.

they stayed in silence until rachel spoke up. "what's the plan, now?"

peter looked at her as if she was talking in gibberish. like a parent would look at a child if they started talking about quantum physics.

"what's the plan? are you serious?" peter glared at her. did she say something wrong? why was he acting all offended?

"i have spent the last two years of my life dedicated to planing about how i'm going to make things right. i have wasted years of my time to clean up the mess my father makes. i spend, seconds, minutes, hours trying to come up with a plan. a plan to save people, a plan to make sure everyone is ok. but, rachel, everything is not ok. it's never going to be ok. i don't have a plan, and as of right now-" he paused. his voice was getting louder and louder. she felt as if his voice was shaking the walls. "i'm done making plans. i'm done trying."

his voice got so quiet it was almost a whisper. his head hung low, his eyes tired from staying awake for so long. he was exhausted. at this point you would think we would be crying, and he was, but no tears fell. maybe he was just done with crying, too.

"i'm sorry. i failed you. i don't know what to do. he's won. he's finally won," he said, shaking his head.

all rachel wanted to do was run over and hug him. she wanted to tell him that they were going to find a way, that they were going to get out together. she knew they were going to make it out, but he wasn't so sure about anything anymore.

"if there's one thing i've learned about you the past 10 days is that you don't give up," she started. "peter, we can do this. he can't leave us in here forever. he's going to have to give us more food and supplies and shit. he has to give us something," she said, trying to lift his spirits.

although he didn't want to admit it, she had a point.

"peter, we can't just-"

the door clicked. their attentions quickly moved to the door, but none of them moved from their spots. that's when the man yelled.

"GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM, BACKS TO THE DOOR!" he boomed. rachel sat up, groaning in pain as she did, peter quickly rushed over to help her, guiding her a few steps to the other wall.

her breathing was unsteady, but peter was calm. she wondered what was going through his mind, but all he could think about was rachel, and how she has to remain safe.

their backs were turned as the man walked in, and he placed a bag on the counter before shutting the door. he ordered them to turn back and sit down. peter guided rachel to the bed, and he sat down across from his father at the table.

"i'm going to make you a deal," the man with 70' looking glasses said. "if you tell me where my gun is, i will let you live back in the house with me, but she's mine-"
