day 17
3rd povit was raining all day. the sky was dark, like the sun would never shine again. she could hear the patter on the roof all day, but it was better than the ever so long silence.
peter still hasn't shown any signs of coming into the room again. in fact, the truck was missing from the drive way. did he leave her? would anyone ever find her?
rachel contemplated her fate for long hours of the day. she waited all day and night, and the food was almost gone. she had eaten her worries away in canned peaches and bread.
the mp3 has died last night when she listened to the song they danced to on repeat. she looked through the backpack, trying to find something else to pass the time, but the gun sat at the bottom of the bag, waiting for something.
at least she had a way out...
her watch read 5:23 pm when she heard sirens. red and blue lights faintly lit up the room. the rain trickled down the side of the window as she quickly grabbed a chair and stood atop it.
there, down the yard, a police car had stopped in the driveway over the fence. a lady in a uniform with a flashlight ran over to the side of the house. another cop exited the car, walkie talkie in hand.
"i'm here! i'm in here! my name is rachel!" she banged on the window, but they didn't see or hear her.
they entered the house, inside and out. it didn't take them long until they found their way outside in the shed. she started to yell again, and the lady notice a noise. the lady's eyes lit up when she finally heard rachel's voice clearly.
"are you alright?" the lady yelled over the pouring rain. the steel door banged, the police officer knew someone was alive and in here.
"yes! yes, i'm ok! get me out of here!" tears streamed down rachel's face as the officer messed with wires around the door. she could hear sizzling and banging on the door.
after a long, agonizing hour, the door swung open. the breeze of the open air fell between her fingertips and the edges of her hair. the smell of rain filled her lungs.
she ran out, not thinking and hugged the officer. the flashlight on the officer had fell to the ground. her tears were masked by the rain falling onto her face.
"shhh, baby, you're ok now," the officer said. she hugged rachel back, not knowing the pain she must've been through. the rain fell harder and harder until the officer guided her to the car. the lady called for backup and three more cars came a few moments later. they gave rachel a blanket and some water before the lady came back into the car.
"um, i'm going to ask you a few questions, ok honey?" the officer asked. rachel nodded her head as she took another sip.
"do you, um, did anyone come into the room you were in?"
rachel spoke up over her cracked voice. "there was peter and his dad."
"and who trapped you there?"
"his dad."
"how did you get there?"
rachel thought about this. peter hadn't really given her a deep description, but she did remember some of the things he said, and some of her memories support her story.
"who is this peter? did he hurt you?"
"no. peter was the one who tried and help me get free. he was trapped with me for three days to until a few days ago."
the lady took this as a surprise. her eyes got wide, asking more questions about peter. she asked his age, description, and anything else i could say.
