I didn't want to leave our apartment. But we had to go out and get food and some point. I was scared to leave. What if the cops saw us, and recognized us? I put on my jacket, letting it stay open.
"Alright, just try to keep your head down, don't draw much attention, don't talk if you don't need to and don't run from the cops. We can just lie our way out of shit, aight? You're Parker, I'm Jack."
John said quickly, opening the door.
I nodded, following him outside.
It was a Saturday, which meant people were out and the streets were semi busy.
I couldn't help but feel nervous, though we hadn't done anything good wrong. I mean, we had, but it wasn't really recently per say.
"I feel sick." I muttered.
"Do you really? Or is it just the anxiety getting to you?" John pretty much deadpanned.
"I..
I think-"
I cut myself off my leaning into the street and vomiting.
"Jesus kid! Are you alright?"
John asked.
I knew people were staring now.
Damn it. I could practically feel their eyes on John and I.
"Kid?"
John said, rubbing my back.
I got on my knees and continued to throw up in the gutter of the street.
I groaned, and wiped my mouth.
A few pedestrians stopped and watched.
Wow.
Thanks guys.
"Is he alright?" A girl asked John.
I couldn't see it but I'm pretty sure John shrugged.
"You know..they kind of look those guys on the news." Someone muttered.
Well fuck.
Can't I just vomit in the street in some peace?
"Kid, come on. Let's go." John muttered, shifting on his feet.
I coughed a few times and stumbled back to my feet. I grabbed at my stomach and leaned on him.
I looked back at where I had thrown up and gagged a little.
"I ain't cleaning that." I told John. "Yeah me neither. Let's go." He muttered, walking away quickly.
I followed.
"I've done that before." I said.
"..You've puked in a gutter before?"
He asked slowly.
"Mhm."
I hummed, looking back behind us.
"..Sounds fun..why have you vomited in a street before?" He asked.
I shrugged.
"Brooklyn isn't the friendliest place on Earth. Then there's Nevis. I didn't do so great in Nevis compared to other people." I said.
He glanced at me with a slightly concerned face, but nodded anyway.
"Good job not drawing any attention," John muttered, seeing all the side glances we were getting.
"Hey! It's not like I could help it."
I said.
"You coulda keep your lunch down." He said.
"What lunch?"
I hissed, knowing he was fully aware I hadn't eaten.
Neither had he.
He gave me a short glare, sighing.
I watched cars drive by, trying to forget the ache in my stomach.
