Anatoliy, Artem, Davyd
AU: None

Artem and Davyd were sitting close together, their backs to Anatoliy, solely focused on each other and their meaningless conversation.
Anatoliy, as usual, was alone. He had told Artem and Davyd that he was going off to find food for them.

He had lied.

Anatoliy didn't dare take his eyes off them for a minute. He had to make sure that the time to strike was perfect.

Minutes passed as Anatoliy watched the two. They began to inch closer together, slowly lacing their arms together into an embrace that went on and on.

Now was the time. Their heads were close, meaning Anatoliy wouldn't have to readjust his aim much to kill them both.
He raised his arm and the pistol that he held came with it. Anatoliy hovered his finger over the trigger, readying himself to pull it. He was ready to betray his only friends.

Artem looked up at Davyd, and a sweet smile appeared across his face. Even from a distance it was noticeable, meaning that Anatoliy, the traitor, could see it. Artem and Davyd were both happy, even whilst being cast outs in an irritated wasteland.

Anatoliy frowned. He knew that his one duty was to kill them both ever since the revolt against the King had started, but he couldn't. He just couldn't.

Tears began to form in his dark eyes as he lowered the gun. He was a failure.
Not only had failed the King, but he failed Artem, Davyd and himself.
He had considered killing his friends and, to him, that was a betrayal by itself. He had even failed himself by allowing a bond to form with them.

Anatoliy wiped the tears from his eyes and tucked the gun back into its holster. He sighed and spoke softly to himself, "Just not yet. Not today."

He stepped out of the bushes and waved at Artem and Davyd. "Ay, comrades, I am back," He cheerily called to the pair.

"Anatoliy! Oh, we're so glad you're back. We were worried about you," Artem replied, springing from his seat and running to hug Anatoliy. Davyd followed.
"Thank you," Anatoliy mumbled.

He should have told them, but he couldn't. It was far too much for right now. Besides, he still had to follow through with the King's orders eventually.

Just not today...
