Author’s note.
Now we’ve had a glimpse of all our primary characters, I will be writing as a third party. But be rest assured it will portray what the operatives think. I hope you like the story so far.Chapter Eight.
The Milky Way Galaxy,
Earth,
South of the Atlantic,
Island of Aquila,
Eagle base,
Wells’ quarters.
1230hrs.
His wings threatened to spring free out of excitement as he gazed at the screen. The results were incredible. It took great control not to jump around and whistle as his inner self wished too.
“After all this years of waiting; working with the cosmobiotic energy never proved disappointing.” Wells said in to his personal log entry. “Yes it is indeed strong and unpredictable. With the help of the operatives I was able to inject a catalyst by pressure and heat, though the results proved successful but the outcome was uncontrollable, unstable and unpredictable. In a worst case scenario lack of proper containment could have lead to death. Now the energy is inactive but, can be easily activated, which I would do after the second phase. To stabilize the energy; to make it easy to manipulate I have to introduce a mild catalyst that would work from the inside rather from the outside like the previous catalyst. This stabilization stage can prove either rewarding or catastrophic to the unit but it is a risk worth taking.
At the end of this phase I expect the cosmobiotic to have an anchor. Eagle base, Milky Way Galaxy, Earth. Entry by Kai Egron.” He smiled and saved the entry.
He has had more action today than he has had in years. It would get better and more adventurous, he could feel it in his gizzard.Eagle base,
Med bay. They all stood around Casmir’s bed like it was some funeral, no one was speaking, just the steady beep of the computer that showed he was still among the living could be heard and even M.A.R.T.I.N was away, Wells had disappeared into his quarters refusing to answer any of their questions.
The only thing he said was. “Make certain he stays on those sedatives and that they never run dry.” Casmir had four pints of alien sedatives running into his veins and Todd was adding more.
“Why more?” Ny'ssa whispered. They were all careful not to wake him; at least she had learnt a lesson of life. ‘NEVER YELL AT OMARION’. That was off course if he got through this without them having to put him down.
“We are not putting him down Ny'ssa it won’t get to that.” Ca'se replied Ny'ssa’s thoughts. She was the only one bold enough to sit close to him, in fact she was holding his hands. “Wells will find a way through this.” And Ca'se silently prayed that way wasn’t to end his life.
“Hopefully.” Ny'ssa replied dryly.
“Whatcha say?” Todd turned to her.
“You are adding more pints to him, wouldn’t it kill him?” she asked.
“I don’t think so, his body is burning through the sedatives fast to get him conscious. Wells believe that if we keep him in a constant state of induced coma, it will keep his brain inactive and render the phoenix useless.” He explained before sitting.
“Phoenix, what’s that?” Leynon asked glancing at Casmir when his pulse raced. He stood beside the screens monitoring Casmir’s brain activity. The image on the screen was currently showing activity on a sub conscious level. It made him wonder what Casmir could be dreaming off.
The door to the pass way opened and Wells walked in causing all eyes to turn to him, he had a kick to his footsteps.
“It’s a state of mind common to off the charts talent who let their abilities or instinct take over their body.” He replied.
“I don’t understand.” Farhat said.
“Ms. Reed, I believe you can explain better.’ Dr. Wells glanced at her then turned to type on the keyboard.
Ca’se sighed. She wasn’t ready to go through this again. She felt someone move closely to her side and she glanced up. Todd gave her an encouraging smile and she nodded.
“This isn’t the first time we have experienced this sort of thing before.” Todd said and Ny’ssa cocked a questioning brow. “We suspect that whatever Casmir’s talent maybe, he is an off the charts talent.”
“We have guessed much of that.” Ley said obviously interested in the secret we were about to share.
“Well we all know that Ca’se is the only other off the….” Todd was saying.
“Yes… yes… we all know that. Get on to what we don’t know.” Ny’ssa interrupted.
“There was this one time in her training that she went too extreme…..” Todd trailed off looking for courage to say what he wanted to say next. Ca’se touched him.
“let me do it.” She said to him mentally.
“Dr. Wells had set the training session to look like an arson Case, one very familiar to what had happened the day my mum died, I’d lost control; my mind told me the best thing to do was to wipe out the memory, forget it ever happened and to destroy anything that would remind me of it and I did.” Ca'se explained.
“I had thought it would only affect me, but I didn’t know better; my phoenix wiped clean a year worth of memory from everybody within a mile radius of me. fortunately, Dr. Wells and Todd where putting on protective head gear to ward of my mental probes , so they were save but not the 100,000 people I destroyed their lives in a single day.”
“Why do I have the feeling that it didn’t just stop there?” Ny'ssa said.
“Because it didn’t.” Wells said, turning to face the operatives. “Ms Reed’s phoenix managed to escape and went after every other person that had the memory of that very day. She wreaked havoc at her former street.”
“Sounds like a dark day, never knew you had it in you.” Ny'ssa grinned trying to light up the room.
“There’s always a monster lurking deep down every soul.” Fas said glancing quickly at Casmir.
“This monster could have been avoided if we had prior info about phoenix. If we are going to remain a team, we need to make sure there are no more secrets.” Ley said glaring at the R3.
Ny'ssa nodded, Todd sighed. “I am sorry” Ca'se said mentally.
“If Ca'se is still alive that means there is still hope for Casmir, right?’ Fas said stepping closer to Casmir’s position on the bed.
“Yes.” Wells replied with a sigh.
“There is a but, isn’t there?” Ny'ssa pointed.
“Yes, Ms. Rokue. To stabilize Casmir we need to reach him.” Wells replied.
“Well he is here, why don’t we get on with it.’ She chagrined.
“What Dr. Wells mean is, we need to enter his mind.”Ca'se answered.
“Oh!” Ny'ssa and Fas chorused.
“I am sure Ca'se is capable of that.” Ley smiled at her reassuringly.
“It’s dangerous, it is not just a partial probe but Ca'se would be projecting her mind into his.” Todd frowned clearly not please with the way things were going.
“What can possibly go wrong?” Farhat asked genuinely.
“Casmir is still a stranger to us, it’s not wise entering a stranger’s mind. You don’t know his past, the demons hunting his mind. In a state of unconsciousness these demons run free.” Todd parsed.
“What Mr. Roid is trying to say is that Ca'se could die or never return. Once in she will need to find Casmir, the real Casmir. Only he can bring them back and if she doesn’t find him she would be stuck searching for ever.” Dr. Wells gave Ca'se a look.
She nodded.
“Ms. Reed you of all people know just how dangerous this is. Are you certain?” he asked.
“Is there any other way?” she asked getting up to pull another bed closer to Casmir.
“No.” Dr. Wells grabbed her by the arm and stopped her. “The subconscious mind is highly unstable, we don’t know Casmir well enough, and how his mind works. We don’t know anything about his past. You will be going in blind.” He stared her down but she refused to back away.
“I know I don’t know him much but the little time I have gone through his mind, I glimpsed that he want this so much, to be like his father, to be a H.A.T.S operative. We can’t give up on that. The least that we can do is give him a chance to be that. That is his life, with that I will find him.” Ca'se said daring anyone to speak up.
Dr. Wells let her go then. “Very well then.’ He smiled. “Roid prepare her a sedative. Dantes hook her up.”
Ca'se got unto to bed and laid down closing her eyes. She relaxed her mind as she felt the injection needle pierce her skin. Her mind began to spin and the entire world faded away.
'What do we do now?" Fas asked.
"Wait" Dr. Wells said non chalantly.
"Wait? And do nothing? I think I will run mad before then." Ny'ssa said. "I need to let off all this tension building up inside of me." she said shaking her palms.
"What you really need is to hit something. " Todd replied.
"Good idea." she turned and headed for the mechanical doors. "Martin ring me up when they finally wake up." she disappeared toward the gym.
"Well, atleast some one is handling all these fine." Fas stared after her.
"Believe me she is more cracked up than any of us. It's just her own way of handling things." Todd said pulling up a stool to seat beside Ca'se who had gone comatose.
Wells was moving around the med bay ignoring them and all the questions they had and it made Ley wonder if they could really handle this, if they could handle Casmir being on the squad. He had beenn glad they found him but now he wasn't sure how he felt. He turned to Wells, it was time they got answers. "What are the possibilities that Ca'se would succeed, Dr wells" he asked.
Wells gave a long sigh and turned to face him. "We could do with a little more faith in Ms. Reed. This is not the time to question or doubt my decisions, Mr. Dantes." he replied.
"I am not questioning anything, we need facts, truths. Faith wouldn't save us if she fails." he pointed to Ca'se's form.
"She won't fail Ley." Todd fired.
"We don't know that. What if he triggers her own phoenix. Then we'll have two super super dudes on rampage." He retorted. He was losing it, he couldn't stand around doing nothing. Was he going into shock?
"Relax, Ley you are hyperventilating. " Fas moved closer and took his hand. "Just breathe." he began chanting in low tones to soothe Ley.
"I can't stand not doing anything. I can't stand us not doing anything. Just waiting doesn't help." he said.
"He is right Dr Wells, we need answers. " Todd spoke.
"What do you think I am doing? I am not clicking the keyboard to pass time." he retorted.
"First what is he?" Ley asked.
"Martin begin the bio scan now. We need to analyze every thing about him and every observation you made from the fight." Wells instructed. "He is a H.A.T.S talent like all of you. What we are dealing with here is an unclassified talent. "
<Err. Dr Wells Ms.Rokue and I had already tried to run a search on him but we found nothing. And I have no record of the fight he locked me out of the system.> Martin reported.
"That's impossible, he couldn't lock you out of the system, You are the system!" Ley's eyes widened.
Martin's form chagrined. <Mr. Dantes, Mr. Omarion turned out to be a very strong telecyber, he did lock me out of myself, at least a portion of myself. > he said.
"Cool." Fas said.
"Not cool." Ley said. "From the little I glimpsed before we were ordered out of the fight. He had control of the elements, he could move things like Ca'se, he could fly, he walked away from Todd's blast like it was a pillow flung his way..."
"That's over exaggerating Ley, I hit him pretty hard. " Todd frowned.
"I don't think that's Ley's point." Fas rolled his eyes.
"Go on Dantes, we can make a catalogue of what to expect when he awakes. We can train him with the info we have." Wells said.
"When? That means there's a chance of Ca'se succeeding? " Ley asked.
"I have never doubted Ms Reed's ability to improvise when needed. I have faith in her ability. " Wells replied.
Ley nodded moving to the computers. "He could manipulate matter too, yes he turned Ny'ssa's blood to lava." he clicked away.
"Really." Wells turned sharply. First sign of using the cosmobiotic energy in the offensive. "What else did he do that was unusual?"
"He could regenerate too." Fas added.
<I have no record of any talent manifesting all three talents.> Martin frowned.
"He called himself a Bio talent. " Todd added.
"What's that?" the other three asked.
Wells turned to Casmir's form, he was excited again. "I don't know operatives, let's pray Ca'se buys us time to find out. " he turned and headed towards the mech doors.
"Where are you going? " ley asked.
"To contact some friends and get answers. Mr Omarion is turning out to be a hand full. We need to understand how he works. " he disappeared around the open doors.
As the door closed behind him, Ca'se's body twitched twice and blood began to ooze out of her right ear. Ley stared at the still form of Casmir.
He never expected it to get this steamy.
