Legend by Marie Lu

Ok, so I'm choosing this book because I went online to see if there was a fandom, and basically I just found a bunch of people arguing if this was or wasn't a good book. 

I guess I should do a summary thing, but not a summary. Like what's on the inside of a book cover, or on the back of a book depending on if it's a hardcover or a softcover. Or you could just google it, who knows. You can decide. 

So what is Legend about? Well Legend is a dystonian novel where the United States is not the United States anymore. It has been turned into the Republic. The Original United States still exists, but doesn't come to importance until book 3. At the ripe age of ten every kid takes the Trial. The trial is out of 1500 points and some things it consists of are physical tests and some stuff which are on your traditional test, such as math, spelling, geography, etc. The Trial determines where you will be placed in life, maybe the army, maybe a doctor, whatever. 

June Iparis is the first person to ever get a perfect score on the Trial. She is from a wealthy and well off family. Her parents died in a car crash when she was young, and her only family was her brother Matias. She works for the army now. 

Our friend Day is the most wanted criminal in the Republic. No one knows who he is though. His DNA does not match up with anyone in the system, how can that be? 

(Wow surprise) June was sent on a mission to find Day, my favorite character, and bring him back to prison. This is because of some stuff that happens and I would not like to tell you cause, it's a spoiler. And I can't tell you more, because I've got this thing about not spoiling books, just like most of you, and I don't trust myself not to accidentally spoil it. Also, many people online like it, and many people don't. I think you should just read it and decide for yourself. 

In general, I think that many people like this book and many people don't. I understand both ways, but personally I liked it. I like our 2 main characters, June and Day. I like how they are on different sides of things, June being the prodigy and the first person to get a perfect score on the test, while Day is the poor boy from the slums. He lives in the slums while she lives in the perfect city where the most she has to worry about is how her commander will judge her. Day however bets money on street fights to get enough money to buy food every day. The book shows the whole society very clearly because it's shown from 2 different sides of things. I personally love both characters. I found the plot fun. The whole idea is not new, but it was written in a way that even if you read a book similar to this before, you were still excited about what would happen next. I believe that legend is Marie Lu's best series yet. I didn't like The Young Elites that much, and War Cross is not done yet. I quite like Marie Lu's writing style and would suggest you read ALL of her books. 

Many people online complain about the fact that they were only 14, please, if you're one of those people at least get your facts straight, they are 15.
