A/N: Here is what was previously called the Defender League but is now AEGIS. Hope you enjoy!
The Violet Phantom followed the man as close as she dared. She had learned not to let one nail click against her gun, not to let one breath come out loudly enough to hear. She was in her element and loved it.
Clara Kasier, code named Violet Phantom, was an operative of the Superthreat Control Board, or the SCB. The organization was not quite popular with most; bad light was shed on them for testing on genetic anomalies (GA's). Most, if not all, of their operations were covert and few people knew about them beyond the name and usual news scandals.
SCB dealt with protection, preparedness, and control of all superhuman threats worldwide and only used GAs for agents. If a superhuman did not register with SCB for yearly testing there were some penalties. But Clara was undeniably loyal to the place.
Clara was a GA; by nature she had the ability to turn herself and others she touched invisible and silent. She hardly, if ever, used this power any more-any super villain worth his or her salt had installed some sort of system for invisibility not more then ten years after she had begun work at SCB. She had been forced through a system of more rigorous training to hold-her-own against non-useless powered GAs. She had moved through the ranks after fifteen years of being in the organization and was now second-in-command to William Brayson.
The Violet Phantom was also an orphan, sort of. She had officially started her training at five years old when her parents, unhappy when they found out through mandatory testing that their child was a GA, had taken the option to simply give their child away to the organization. At age fifteen she had started desk work and had been moving up ever since.
"There," said the thug she was following, opening the crate and glancing around the warehouse nervously. "Now get me outta here!" she flattened herself against the wall and disappeared.
A tall, muscular man opened the crate with a crowbar. "There," he said into his comm, placed at the collar of the bodysuit that he wore. "now, get me outta here!"
"Sorry, I'm afraid that's not going to happen." a male voice came from above him. The warehouse filled with light briefly from the hole in the roof and a man with sandy colored hair and hazel eyes landed on the ground, dressed in dark blue, black, and silver spandex with a mask.
The thief pulled a large gun frown the crate, firing it at the superhero with sound powers. Caught off guard, Battlecry fell to his knees from the impact, then fell backwards. Though he scrambled back up again, he could taste metal and realized it was blood, which he spat out. It felt like every bone in his body was vibrating at high speed. The thug laughed, a crude sound, as a few dark red droplets dripped onto his chin and the collar of his shirt.
Battlecry frowned. "Another one of the Syndicate's goons? What are your bosses after now? Something of Brand-Well Industries again?" he mentally kicked himself for wasting time. He had to get out of here before the SCB, which would probably be only a matter of minutes.
He fired a sound wave attack the same time the thug fired his gun, leading to a small explosion that knocked them both down. Battlecry was less affected by the blast and took that opportunity to punch his staggering opponent in the face.
The man retaliated by slamming the butt of the gun right in the middle of the underside of his jaw, emitting a strangled yell of pain from Battlecry, who fell backwards coughing and gagging. With his opponent down, the thief raised the gun to finish the job when a gun went off near Battlecry's ear. Being a sonic hero he prepared to harness the sound energy but found it unnecessary as the thug fell backwards, grabbing at his stomach and gasping.
