14th June 1997

The light summer breeze was stroking my hair, the sun was kissing my pale skin as I lay by our pool. It was a hot summer morning in Los Angeles on that day when Nick Carter called. Ms Elizabeth came out holding my Nokia that I had left in the living room. "Karla, dear, somebody is calling you."
I took off my sunglasses and stood up heading towards the glass doors that led to the inside of the house. I thanked Ms Elizabeth and with my swimsuit still on accepted the call, not knowing who the caller was.
"Hello?" I picked up and tensed up when I heard the voice coming from the other side:

"Hi. Is this Karla? It's me, Nick."

Ever since the Backstreet Boys left for Europe and got bigger the contact I had with Nick became smaller and smaller, until I slowly started forgetting about those feelings I had trapped in my body. I moved in to LA with my mom, which was the best destination for any actor. My life now consisted of auditions, interviews, going to film sets... To be honest being this busy did help with forgetting Nick. Back at the beginning of 1997 I got closer to Devon Sawa, both of us filmed "Casper" and "Now and Then". Eventually, we ended up dating and the 'huge' news was all over the media. However, that didn't seem to bother me as much as I thought it would. I was happy.

"So, how are you?" Nick started the conversation, followed by an uncomfortable chuckle. "I hear you live in an LA mansion now." Our conversation continued for about half an hour, we had so much to tell each other. The boys were coming to LA in a few days, that boosted my good mood even more - I'd finally see them again. As the conversation progressed all of the good memories with Nick started flushing back to me very vividly. The first day I saw him, our jokes and his very goofy side, filming their first music video... and of course my first kiss, which I remember quite awkwardly. However, I did not do the same mistake when me and Devon first kissed, that seemed a bit more romantic.

"Well, well. Looks like Mr Boy Band is coming to visit." I heard my mom's voice from the back. I had just finished the call with Nick. "Your brother just called. The band is paying us a visit this weekend." I acted very surprised and happy as I didn't want my mom to know that I was just on the phone with Nick. The boys would stay at a nearby hotel and would also record some songs now that they would have access to the studios in Hollywood.

I couldn't have been happier that day. My brother and friends were finally coming to see us and I would finally be able to feel Nick's warm embrace again.

I was sitting on the staircase reading a magazine and looking at my wrist watch every 3 minutes. My brother and his friends were supposed to arrive at around 4:30pm. It was 4:29 now. For some reason I felt butterflies in my stomach as I was counting the minutes for the Backstreet Boys to show up. At last I heard the bell ring. I shot up from my sitting spot and ran down the stairs to answer the door. There I saw Brian standing in front of me with a big smile plastered on his face. Without hesitations I gave him the biggest hug. He hadn't grown taller but he sure looked more mature than the last time I had seen him. Afterwards, I hugged all of the other guys and there there was Nick. He had grown taller and his face features had matured into a masculine looking face. He didn't look like a kid anymore. With a smile on both of our faces, we hugged each other. Nick still smelled the same and the hint of his light cologne brought me back to the past.

I felt myself reconnecting, reconnecting with the girl I was. Reconnecting with the feelings for my favorite boy in the entire world.
