After Amir leaves Afghanistan and starts a new life with his father, he often deals with guilt of what he had done to Hassan. He tries to push it away from his thoughts, never wanting to fully deal with and accept what he had done to Hassan despite it haunting him as tries to live a new life.

He later goes back to Afghanistan to see his fathers best friend, Rahim Khan, where he tells him about the rest of Hassans life leading up to his death. He talks about Hassans child and where he is, how he must go over to protect the child. Amir was hesitant, wanting to put his past behind him not knowing that he couldn't, unless he were to deal with it. As he goes through the journey of getting to his half brothers child, he realizes many things. How much he cares for this child and how this was the way to atone for his sins.

I believe the author is aware that certain events and the past haunts everyone in a way or two, though for most people it isn't as traumatic. It is possible to repair the things that we haven't done even if it isn't quite as direct. What is something that haunts you and can you fix it?
