“Ally, did you bring stuff for swimming?” Mark asked from the edge of the bouncy castle.
“Yeah.”
“Great, that’s good don’t lose it!” he called running away to find somebody else. I frowned a little then turned to Danni.
“How am I going to lose my swimming stuff?”
“Who knows, he’s just someone you learn to ignore when he talks random shit,” I nodded and looked back at the children on the bouncy castle. Our bus had come in late meaning we were leaving in a few minutes so Mark had to do a quick round of people to see what helpers were going swimming.
“Right, time to go to the bus guys!” Was called into the room and the bouncy castle was switched off so not to tempt the children back on. It was my third day helping and I was getting to know the place and not getting lost anymore. We had Friday off because the centre was shut in general.
“You excited for swimming, Zach?”
“Definitely,” he said grabbing his stuff and running out to the buses. I ran after him, not wanting to lose him and end up on different buses. That would not be good in the slightest.
“What bus are we on?” I asked Mark when I saw him with a clipboard making sure people went to the right place.
“That one there” he pointed to the one parked at the side. We walked onto the minibus and took seats near the door.
“I was wondering when we were going to have another chat,” I turned and saw Jack sitting in the single seat across from me.
“And why’s that?” I asked, confused about why he’d want to talk. He was about 23.“You’re just funny.” I gave him a quizzical look but shrugged all the same. “Here, what’s the deal with you and Craig?” he leaned in and whispered to me.
“What are you talking about?”“He’s been acting differently since you joined; he looks a little lost when you’re not around and when you are he focuses his attention on you like you could disappear any minute.” Shit. That was not something I wanted to hear, I mean it could all still be sheep’s bollocks but I really don’t need more relationships to cause drama. To think I thought guy friends minimized that drama.
“Are you sure it’s not something completely unrelated to me?” I asked praying for a better answer.
“I’m sure, I mean he’s staring at you from the back of the bus right now” he gestured his heads slightly towards where Craig was sitting. Really should have checked before I sat down.
“Oh crap,” I cursed under my breath, knowing that Zach was too engrossed in the music on the radio to hear me.
“What has happened?”
“Nothing, seriously he just tried to annoy me yesterday, so I got my revenge,” I said smugly then flashing a glace at the back, catching eyes ever so briefly with Craig. “He doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into,” I warned aloud. Jack just looked at me oddly then acted as if I hadn’t said the last part.
