Ryker's POV:
"Something is wrong" was all my gut had to tell me. The mystery of the robbed bank, and the mystery of the stolen diamond all adds up to the threat of getting debunked from my position. I know I have what it takes to be where I am. I know I deserve getting where I am now. After all, my whole life I watched policemen do their job.
"What is wrong with you, Ryker" was what my brain kept repeating over and over again until everything I was hearing turned into distant sounds. "Why can't I see any clues" was my biggest wonder. No one can keep doing crime without any trace that would lead to him.
My coworkers kept asking me why I haven't tried anything yet, and my simple answer was because I couldn't do much else except to wait for a strike that could hopefully give us something to work with.
I threw the case file across my office in frustration and I opened the windows. I focused on my breathing just to slow down my heartbeat and I looked at the sky. It was a Friday afternoon and the sun was already getting ready to set. I gazed at the clouds hovering over it, only making the orange seem more powerful as an outline.
When my nerves were calm enough I stepped away from the window and I picked up the file again, along with the so called "evidence". I watched the tapes over and over again but found nothing, over and over again.
Today was my sister's engagement, the one my mother barged into my house at the crack of dawn to tell me about. I sighed and I decided to go home and rest for a few hours before the engagement began. "I will figure this out" was what I told myself. I laid the file in my drawer and locked it, and walked out of my office.
"Deputy." Mark scoffed. He saw me storming out of my office a while ago and wanted to piss me off to make himself feel better about him being a dumbass. Fine, whatever he can say won't make me feel worse than I already feel. I walked out of the station and blasted music on until I got home.
I texted Shay and asked her how she was doing but I got no answer. I pulled out another bottle of Scotch and I chugged it down for the third time this week. I decided to distract myself by ironing my suit.
"Alright, deep breaths," I thought as I inhaled as slowly as I could. I pulled out a black dress shirt from my closet and I fixed it on the iron board.
"Five hundred million dollar worth golden bars were stolen from the bank of San Diego, and all of the footage were wiped out, along with dozens of injured bodyguards. A person alone couldn't have done that unless he's the son of God or he was in X-Men and the idea of the thief to be Jesus or a superhero doesn't make any sense," I kept in mind as I began ironing the sleeves.
"Before that, the largest crystal diamond was also stolen and no footage was caught on tape. Maybe we are dealing with a hacker? A really strong hacker?" I was distracted by the clock and I accidentally burned myself. I yelled and clutched my hand hurrying to the bathroom.
"A strong hacker makes no sense, because if it did, he surely needed someone else to help him take out all those guards. Maybe a hacker and a black belt karate fighter? So...Jackie Chan? Ouch." I wondered while having water pouring down my hand. I pulled out ice and I had it on my hand for a bit.
"The largest crystal, five hundred million dollars, and a businessman's mansion was also attacked, but nothing was taken. Could he, she, they be involved with the attack as well? If everything is related to one person, he surely had to have a gang. Maybe a hacker, a fighter, and a mind master?" I got back to the iron board and finished ironing my dress shirt. I hung the jacket on the door handle and made sure it got smooth, then took off my shirt and went to take a shower.
"I don't think anyone would try to mess with Mal unless it's a gang business, but I also don't think gangsters are involved with such robberies. Especially since nothing was taken from Mal, what if it was a completely separate thing?" I got my shampoo and massaged my head, which was now hurting from all the thinking.
