Ch 14 - Forgotten Nemesis

The eyes in the serpents skull had burned green for all these years. Consistently, forever green. Like the dark shade of an aged emerald that glistened rich and bold in whatever light surrounded it.

She had become so used to the shade of green that she had almost forgotten to pay any attention to the serpents head that day. If it hadn’t been for the extreme difference in the color, she never would have seen it. When she saw, of course, she knew. Her nephew had awakened. She had not really felt too bitterly about that.

However, the next morning, when she awoke to find the eyes burning blood red she cried out in outrage and broke almost every fragile thing within her reach. Her anger was so intense that she nearly cast the killing curse on the only thing she had left to remind her of her love, Voldemort.

Stopping short as she stared at Nagini, her lover’s familiar, she lowered her wand. The snake looked at her with wary eyes and slithered away from her swiftly. Tears filled her eyes as she sank into the nearest chair and let her emotion claim her.

Something she had not allowed herself to do since his murder.
It wasn’t fair. Lucius Malfoy had no right to be free! He should suffer. Drawing a ragged breath, she stood and moved swiftly back to the snakes-skull. “Show me who has freed him!”

A hissing sound came from the snake and it’s eyes turned white. Leaning forward, Bellatrix let herself see through the snake’s eyes. For a moment all she saw was Lucius’ chambers. Then, quite unexpectedly, she saw a very naked Mudblood witch walk seductively across the room with a very sensuous smile for a very alive and also naked Lucius following behind.

An exclamation of outrage escaped Bella’s lips. “A Mudblood? That little whore freed Lucius! And now he’s actually sleeping with her?” Disgusted, she turned and paced away from the snakes-skull and began formulating her plan. He might have found a way to escape her curse, but to her that only meant one thing… She just had another bitch to kill now.

The smile that transformed Bella’s face would have made anyone who did not know her believe she was beautiful. She giggled and twirled around the room as if waltzing with an invisible partner for a few minutes.

The snake watched the witch closely before curling herself into a tight ball. If any could hear the snakes thoughts they would have been surprised to hear her pitying the poor soul that Bellatrix was preparing to unleash her fury on. The snake may have been familiar to Tom Riddle, but she had never liked his chosen mate. She was far more evil than even Voldemort, if anyone had cared to ask her opinion.

Hermione giggled as Lucius tickled her feet for the fifth time that morning. “Lucius, stop! I am so ticklish on my feet. Please don’t!” She begged through uncontrollable laughter.

He stuck his head out from under the covers and smiled at her with such a twinkle in his eyes that it took her breath away. “I’m sorry, my dear. I just love the sound of your laughter.” He moved to lay beside her in the bed, draping an arm around her waist. “I think it is fast becoming my favorite sound.”

She quirked an eyebrow in his direction. “You jest!” feigned disbelief while trying her best not to smile as she cuddled into his embrace. She had been so happy these last few days that she was beginning to wonder if she was perhaps having an incredible dream.

He met her gaze with a somber expression. “Dearest, I never jest.” He shook his head. It’s not in my nature. You should know that by now. He moved to lean over her and capture her lips with his own. Hermione returned the kiss passionately.
The kiss would have developed into more, but Mud came through the Floo.
