I got this idea ages ago and I found it again in one of my old notebooks.
This is the original idea. The girl has no hands because I originally wasn't sure how I wanted them to be. Also, the soldier is just lousy in general.
This is how the girl ended up looking. The proportions are kinda wonky, but it's alright. Technically, the drawing is set in the 1860s so she should probably have long sleeves, but I don't really care.
This is my soldier. I spent a good deal of time scouring the internet for a good picture to use as a reference. He's from the Union, probably going off to fight in Virginia. I am very proud of the shading on his pants. I'm probably never going to draw pants as wonderful as those ever again in my life.
This is the final copy. I used another picture of a landscape as a reference, but I made all of it.
