Niamh scrolled through all the posts she could find on her latest subject of infatuation. Only gazing over once and a while at her friend, Vanessa, who was sprawled out on her bed like she owned it.
Niamh wondered whether or not to tell her friend about meeting Bushroot. On one hand, it was sort of exciting to have it be just her secret, but on the other hand, Niamh couldn't help but really want to talk to someone about it. She was the kind of person who, unless it was absolutely critical not to, refused to bottle things up.
Vanessa held her phone out to show her screen to Niamh. Yet another meme about relatable stuff. Giving a generous chuckle, Niamh nodded in agreement and went back to her scrolling.
After reading a few more posts and an article, Niamh looked up to her friend from where she sat on the floor. "Hey..."
Vanessa looked up and perked up her ears. "Yeah?"
"Conversations are nice, don't you think?" Niamh smirked to make sure she wasn't coming off as too passive-aggressive.
"Yeah, if only we had something to talk about..." Vanessa went along, knowing from many other times that Niamh was just getting herself ready for a long ramble about whatever was eating at the back of her mind.
"Yeah! Say, I got something in my back pocket that we could talk about!" Niamh put her phone behind her back.
"Oh? Do tell~" Vanessa grinned, amused at their cheesy start to a conversation.
Pulling her phone out from behind her back, Niamh held out her screen to show a pic of a mugshot. "Wow, would you look at that? It's a convict!" Niamh broke down in a chuckle towards the end of her statement. She couldn't help but laugh a little at her awkward demeanor while at the same time she cringed at how out of place her talking was.
"Oh! I know him!" Vanessa squinted at the photo.
"Yeah?" Niamh pulled her phone away, looking at the picture again.
"Yeah! His name is Megavolt, right?" Vanessa made sure just in case.
"Yep! I just started learning about him today." Niamh nodded.
"Cool, did he do something that caught your attention, or did you just happen to come across him?" Vanessa asked.
"Uh... I found a post on him." Niamh answered unsurely. "But I really took an interest in him, y'know? I've never heard of him before! And there's so much to know about him compared to some of the other guys I research!"
"Yeah?" Vanessa nodded along.
"Yeah! Dang, he's a total objectifiliac! He thinks electronics and lightbulbs are sentient, and tries to free them from the sockets they're screwed to!" Niamh explained.
"Niamh, I don't think that's the right word..." Vanessa commented.
"Lightbulb-screwy-holder-things, whatever!" Niamh attempted using a different term. "Anyways! He's also a total nerd! And y'know how I feel about nerds!"
"Niamh! You can't just have crush on another criminal! I won't allow you to turn into one of those psycho fan girls who would literally kill to meet their crush!" Vanessa sat up on the bed and crossed her arms stubbornly.
Niamh waved her hand dismissively. "Don't worry, I'm not that kind of girl. And you know, I couldn't kill a fly if I wanted to! I just don't have the hand-eye coordination that it takes!"
