It's raining as we drag the limp body outside. Abby has one arm, I have the other. Blood is trickling down the woman's face, mixing with the rain as it drips steadily from the end of her nose.
We dump her up against the railings, where the alleyway meets the end of the station's residential block. Behind the railings, the ground falls away into a yawning chasm, black as black below as its depth stretches far beyond the reach of the cities lights.
I slap the woman's cheeks lightly. 'Waky waky moonbeam, cummon'' The woman stirs slightly and opens one bleary eye. She moves her head forward and spits blood on the street beside her. She blond, around 30 biologically and has several offensive luminous tattoos scattered across her body.
'Who are you?' The woman asks hoarsely, eyes flickering with a threatening cunning.
'Brakeman,' I introduce myself and gesture to Abby standing behind me with her arms folded. 'And Abby.'
The woman snorted. 'You two idiots?' She sneered up at us 'I thought you got pinned after that fuck up on Java.'
I winced. Java did not bring back pleasant memories.
'You heard wrong' Abby unfolded her arms and bent down. 'It was actually just Brakeman who fucked up.'
'Oh yeah?' The woman laughed.
'Yup.' Abby pulled out a knife and put the point to the woman's neck. 'You want to know why?'
The woman cackled as her laughter faded. 'You tell me...'
Abby leaned in close and whispered in her ear. 'He didn't kill me.' She pulled the knife from the woman's throat and stabbed it through the woman's hand into the dirt of the street beneath it. The woman screamed.
I winced again. I'm not good with interrogations. I'm more of a point and shoot guy.
'Why'd you kill her?' Abby growled, grabbing the woman's hair and pulling her head back.
'Kill who?' The woman sobbed.
Abby pulled the ID pass of the girl we'd found in the Warehouse from her pocket. She opened it to the picture and tossed it in our suspect's lap. 'Gina.'
'I never...' Abby twisted the knife. The woman screamed again. I looked away.
'I said why?!'
The woman caught her breath, then met Abby's eyes as she cackled again. 'You're guna die.'
Abby growled and seized the woman's throat. 'All you freaks,' the woman croaked 'pure humanity...' There was an expansive bang, then the woman went limp. Abby lowered the gun in her shaking hand.
'Abby, we didn't get anything from her.' I said reproachfully as I frowned. 'How do we even know if she...'
'Killed Gina?' Abby slowly got to her feet. 'We don't.' She met my eye, her purple iris for a moment seeming to yield an even deeper black than the pit behind her. 'Call it in.'
With that, Abby turned and stalked from the suddenly hauntingly quiet alleyway. As I turned back to the body, my eyes fell on Gina's picture. A small girl with a happy face, and vivid Cyan irises.
