This is my first boom I've ever published. I'm sorta nervous about it, so comment and tell me what you think!!

"Have you thought at all about what you want for your birthday?"
"Yes, but you already said no dad."
I was annoyed Dad wouldn't let me get a dog. I couldn't understand what his problem was with having a pet.
"I know you want a dog Y/N, but that's a ton of work," he explained.
"I know it is dad. Otherwise I wouldn't ask."
Dad sighed as he stood up to leave the room. "I don't know Y/N, I've definitely thought about it. Maybe in a few years."
"Yeah, whatever," I mumbled to myself.
~A Few Weeks Later~
"Wake up kiddo." Dad rubbed my shoulder to wake me up. I was confused why he was waking me up.
"What time is it?" I mumbled.
"Around 8."
"Dad, that's too early," I groaned, turning away from him.
"Hmm, I guess I'm just gonna go get our special present all by myself," he said in a sing songy voice.
I sat up super quickly. "What special present?!" I gasped.
"Well it's too early, I guess you'll just find out later," dad teased.
"Dad, no! I'm awake!" I jumped out of bed.
"Ok ok," dad laughed. "We're leaving in thirty minutes."
"Ok I'll be ready!" I told him. "But... can you leave so I can get dressed please?"
"Oh, and dress in in something you can get dirty..." dad added, leaving the room.
My mind went through all the options. Were we dirt biking? Hiking? Neither of those really seemed like presents. I put on an old pair of jeans and a t shirt. Then, I went to the bathroom to get ready and do my makeup.
When I entered the kitchen dad handed me some toast and poured me a glass of juice.
"Soooo. Where are we going?" I asked.
"California."
"Dad. We live in California that means nothing," I groaned. I hated when my dad joked with me like this.
"Well you asked, I answered," he laughed.
"Ok but for real where are we going, and why am I getting dirty?" I asked again.
"You'll see, you'll see," he assured me. "And you might get dirty, it's not a guarantee."
"Hmm ok. So dirt biking and hiking are out," I processed.
Dad laughed hard. "We are definitely not dirt biking."
I finished my toast and Dad grabbed some car keys.
"Ok let's go kiddo, there's gonna be traffic."
Now I was definitely intrigued. Traffic usually meant we were going into the city, and dad hated going into the city if he didn't have to.
I sat in the front seat, and dad turned on the radio as we left the drive way.
"Now will you tell me where we're going?" I asked.
"Sure!" Dad said excitedly.
"Really?"
"Yeah. When we get there." I groaned again.
We sat through some traffic until dad took our freeway exit. I had never been to this part of LA before, now I was definitely excited. We pulled up and parked beside an office building. I was incredibly confused.
"Dad," I groaned. "Now will you tell me why we're at some random office."
Dad laughed. "Look across the street silly." The building across the street was a couple story green and gray building with a fenced in lawn area.
"I'm still confused," I said slowly.
Dad had this big goofy smile on his face. "It will make sense in a second."
We got out of the car and then I heard it. Dogs barking!
"Daddy!" I squealed. "Oh my gosh!" I ran to give him a hug.
"Ok ok," he laughed.
We entered the building to the sound of dogs barking. I was almost jumping up and down.
"Hi, have you called ahead?" a receptionist asked.
"Yes, I filled out an application about a week ago," my dad answered. "Harry S-"
"Ah yep, I have it on file," the receptionist replied. "You are welcome to play with any of the dogs or cats."
My dad thanked her as I practically dragged him to the dog pens. Immediately, I wanted every single dog. Some of the dogs were older, since this was a dog rescue, but there were lots of puppies too. Dad and I played with a few of the dogs, but one in particular caught our eye. He was a four month old brown poodle. Fluffy as could be and so sweet. I sat down on the floor to play with him and he tried to eat my shoe!
"What about this one," I told my dad, looking up.
Dad had a funny look on his face. "Well... I don't know... he's a puppy..." Dad stalled.
"Come on Dad, you know you love him," I pleaded.
Dad made a noise. "Urgh, yeah I do..." He stammered. "He'll be a lot of work, you understand that right?"
"Yes," I stared very seriously. "I understand one hundred percent."
"Ok, then I think he's the one."
