Ashton was apalled with himself.
The fact tat he acted that way in front of Azazel made him feel like a monster. Just hearing her so frantic just set him off. And learning that a man had assaulted her just sent him into a blind rage. The only emotion he had left in him was anger. Just seeing red and thirsting for blood, anger. He knew what he had done was wrong. It wasnt even self defense, it was retaliation. He should have caught up to the man and just held him down until the police arrived. But noooooo, Ashton had to get all emotional, and angry, and fucking stupid.
He was surprised that he wasnt in jail anyway. The man was spluttereing so bad and so hurt they actually had to call in an ambulance. Luckily Azazel had covered for him, and said that it was self defense. Although, she didnt even look at him for the rest of the day, and definitely didnt speak to hiim. He didnt even receive a phone call afterwards. Ash didnt know which would have been worse, that his best friend and crush siince the 4th grade was ignoring him, or that he was in jail. Luckily this whole thing wasnt going to go to court. He knew Azazel wouldnt be able to handle that. She could barely handle talking to the single police officer who interrogated her about what happened for christs sake! Ashton started to stress himself out by thinking about all this, so he went down to his basement to work out. It always calmed him down.
He stripped his shirt off, revealing his muscular body. Most everybody he had ever gone out with only like him because of his body. Honestly, Ashton didnt blame them. But then they would realise how sensitive and non-manly his personallity really was and immediatly dumped him. Ash lied down on his bench pressing table. The bar had a hundred pounds on each side, plus the bar itself weighed fifty pounds, yet Ash barely struggled to do thirty layups. His biceps were very visible and hard as rocks by the end, he slowly let the bar down. Thinking about what he wanted to do next, he spotted an old picture of him and Azazel in the hospital as kids. It showed them sitting on top of a large plastic turtle together. It was always their favorite thing to play on. Grinning at the sight of their small, pudgy faces, Ash decided to look through the box it was sitting on top of. It was labeled Albums, so he already knew what would be in there.
He pulled out the largest photo album. Blowing the thick covering of dust off of the cover, he opened it up. Picture after picture of Azazel and Ashton covered each page. It showed pictures of them as todlerss, up until about the ninth grade. Every picture in there made him smile. Every picture in there made him realize how much he liked her, as a friend and crush wise. One of the pictures in there showed the two of them with another person, in the middle of Ash and Azazel. He remembered her face. It was Sandy Miller.
She was his girlfriend for about a month in the seventh grade. She had asked him out, and he had said yes to try and appeal more to Azazel. Looking back at it now, he realized how sick it was to do that, and Azazel was never the type to be jealous anyway. Sandy however, was exactly that. She had tried to drive the two best friends apart, because she saw Azazel as a threat to her relationship. Ashton ended up breaking up with her when the things she had done to keep them apart became too extreme ("If you dont get out of that little bitch's house right now and come over here, I am SOOOoooOoo gonna like, steal her test so the teacher doesnt get it. Or something.").
Deciding to bring the album over to Azazels tommorow (if she didnt take the hideaway key on top of the doorframe away.), he headed up stairs and plopped it down onto his couch. He had to go get some wipes to clean it off. Azazel would freak if he brought somehing that dirty into her house.
