CHAPTER ONE
"Dad do you seriously have to go to London?" I asked as I sat the rest of my luggage by the door. "Carter we've been over this" my dad sighed.
I rolled my eyes and ran upstairs to grab one last thing. I entered my room and walked over to my queen sized bed. I sunk down onto my bed and just looked around my room at every tiny detail. Even the little tiny holes at the top of my ceiling. "Why does he have to go to London?" I whispered to myself.
My dad walked in shortly after wards. He walked over to me in silence and sat beside me. "Listen kiddo, I know this is really hard for you. Its hard for me too. But my job has its ups and downs" He said. "This just so happens to be a downer"
All I did was sit there in silence. "Don't look at him, you'll loose it" I kept telling myself. But I didnt even look at his and I lost it
"This just isn't fair!" I stood up and yelled. "What kind of job makes you send your sixteen year old daughter to live with some people she's never even met before?!" I can't do this. I just cant.
Before I knew what was going on I just broke down. All of those walls I built came crumbling down all at once. I felt my dad wrap his arms around me and whisper "Shhh it'll be alright". Tears just kept rolling down my face and they weren't going to stop anytime soon.
I wiped my eyes and stood up. "You okay kiddo?" My dad asked. I walked over to my closet in complete silence. Inside was a dark blue and purple triceratops pillow pet known as Kendal. I bent down and grabbed her and walked to my door. I turned my head towards my dad "Mmhm. Just peachy. Now can we go? Please I have a flight to catch in an hour and a half and its a 45 minute drive to the airport.
Without waiting for an answer I walked downstairs to the front door. A few minutes later everything was loaded into the car and we were on our way to the airport. Twenty minutes into the drive my music got boring and I was getting a little grouchy so we stopped at a Starbucks.
"I'll take a plain black coffee" my dad said handing me a twenty. I gave him an odd look. "What?" he asked. "Who gets a plain black coffee at Starbucks?" I ask. He shrugged his shoulders and shooed me off. While u was getting out of the car I stepped in a puddle "crap" I mumbled to myself. "Language!" dad called from the car. Okay so maybe I didn't actually mutter it to myself. "Sorry" I called when I was at the door.
Right when I walked in I was hit with the fresh brewing smell of coffee. The shop wasnt busy. Like at all. It was me and one other person there. I got in line behind him. While I was waiting I checked him out. He was tall. Lean. Had blonde hair and had the whole 'hipster' style going. I guess I zoned out because the lady behind the counter was now tapping my shoulder. "Miss are you okay?" she asked. She was older, about in her mid thirties or early forties. I got back into reality and replied "Oh, yes. I'm fine sorry"
The lady hopped back behind the counter and asked for my order. "A grande plain black coffee and a grande mocha cookie crumble frappuccino" I replied and slid off to the side just in case someone else came in.
"A plain black coffee, huh?" The blonde boy asked. I turned around. "Um excuse me?" I asked. He looked at me confused. Why was he confused? "The uh coffee you ordered" he replied awkwardly. Oh gosh that was humiliating. My cheeks flushed a bright red, I could feel them. "Oh yea. Sorry its been a long day" I said back to him. He nodded his head and agreed.
"Iced green tea with honey" the lady behind the counter called. The blonde haired boy turned and said "That'd be me" He got his tea and said a brief good bye.
Well that was something else. "One plain black coffee and and one mocha cookie crumble frappuccino" the lady behind the counter announced. I walked up to the counter and told the lady they were mine. "That'll be $8.99" she told me. I reached in my bag and pulled the twenty out and handed it to her. "$11.00 is your change and have a great day" she said. I gave her a little smile. "You too" I said and walked out.
"Finally what took you so long?" dad asked when I got back in the car. I looked at him confused. "You were in there for about 15 minutes" What?! Theres no way I was in there that long. "What?! No I wasn't" I said to him. He rolled his eyes in disbelief and started the car again. And than we were off again!
*20 minuteslater*
"Flight 372 is now boarding" the person on the intercom announced. Me and dad looked at each other for a little bit and than he gave me a hug. I hugged him back and whispered "I love you dad" I could hear him let out a little whimper. That's my dad for ya. "I love you too kiddo" he replied and let me out of his grasp. I grabbed my luggage and went to the boarding dock.
Right when I was about to hand the attendant my ticket I heard someone yell "HEY STARBUCKS GIRL!" I didn't know who the person was talking to so I just ignored them and handed the attendant my ticket and boarded the plane.
As I was putting my luggage in the department above I felt someone tap my shoulder. I turned around and seen the blonde headed boy from Starbucks earlier today. "Oh hi" I said as I took my seat. He put his luggage in the department above and took the seat next to me. "Hi, I'm Lucas" the blonde boy said and held out his hand. "Carter" I said shaking his outstretched hand. "Nice to meet u Carter" he said letting go of my hand. Why was he talking to me? After this I'll probably never see him again but who am i to complain? I mean come one he's flawless and he's talking to me so why not, right? Right.
*30 minutesintotheflight*
"Sorry but I'm really tired and I have a lot of stuff going on after this flight so if u wouldnt mind if I fell asleep would you?" I asked Lucas as I grabbed Kendal and my Beats. He gave me the 'youdon'thavetoask'look. "I understand. I'm actually tired as well" And with that I plugged in my Beats and drifted off to sleep.
