The first thing I heard was the rain, loud and incoherent. I could hear every drop as the water slammed against the glass of my window. There was no way I could sleep through that, so I sat up, pulling my legs to my chest and staring through the open blinds. There was so much lightning, flashes that would occur every several seconds, lighting up my whole bedroom. The thunder, however, could barely be heard over the drum of the rain. Until the lightning flashed again, making me gasp, and the thunder followed milliseconds after, loud and frightening. I looked to where I knew my iPhone was charging on my bedside table, waiting for it to vibrate.
3, 2, 1, buzz.
I couldn't blame her for being scared, to be honest I was a little jittery too. Opening the phone, I felt it buzz again as I received another message. Cali had been my friend for a long time, and I knew her greatest fear was thunder. Sure enough, she was freaking out.
"Did you hear that, Elle?"
"That was a big one, I'm freaking out."
I jumped a little, feeling like a deer in the headlights while thunder continued to crash.
"It's okay, Cali. It's just Thor saving Asgard... Again." I replied, hoping to ease her nerves.
"Thor needs to calm the fuck down."
"I agree, but at least he's saving people." I had just clicked send when another huge flash of lighting lit up my room.
"Elle It's shaking my house."
"You're okay, you're alive. The storm will pass, just give it a couple minutes." I thought for a moment before adding one more thing on.
"Play some music, maybe? It might help block out the sound."
Cali and I continued with conversation about the latest episodes of shows, movies we want to see, just pointless things for about half an hour, and that's when my room was no longer lit by lightning and thunder did not fill my ears.
"I think the storm is dying down..." I sent to my best friend, eyes fixated on the window.
"I think so too. I'm gonna go to bed, thank you, Elle."
"That's what friends are for." I actually didn't mind belong her through the storms, it was kind've fun having someone to talk to when you can't sleep. With a light sigh, I replaced my phone to where it was sitting, and laid back down. My eyes must've been closed for about 15 seconds before lightning struck again, and I could see it through my eyelids. The phone buzzed, and I picked it up to see Cali's message.
"I guess we were wrong about the storm being over."
This story was finished at exactly 11:13 pm, on a very stormy night. I rarely can't sleep through storms, but I have a friend who is much like Cali. So yes, this story was based on actual events even though the events did not happen on the same night. I hope you enjoy this little dabble, it only exists because I can't sleep and it's really, really stormy out. Thank you, Thor.
