A/N: Hi everyone! Sorry it's taken so long, but I've finally brought you a new chapter. But before that, here's a few changes I've made while revising the story:

Kai no longer wears a mask, and his talk with Kakashi in Chapter 3 has been altered to reflect this.

The original Chapter 9 (where Kai and Shiro watched the others train) has been removed. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote it (most likely I was half-asleep), but it literally just repeated lines from the previous chapter.

Kai's power and origins have been revamped, which matters more to me than you at the moment. But the new Chapters 9 &10 (which used to be 10 and 11) have changed a lot because of this, so I recommend re-reading those to avoid confusion later on.

Hopefully this'll be the last time I have to write a long author's note like this, but I make no promises. Without further ado, here's Chapter 11!

Third person POV:

After Shiro regained consciousness and the Nine-Tail's chakra disappeared, Kai and Shiro returned to the bridge. The area was still covered in fog, but they managed to find their way back to Sakura and the old man. Sakura turned her kunai on them as they emerged from the mist, but looked relieved once she recognized them. "Kai, Shiro! What happened? Are you okay?"

"Don't worry, we're fine." Kai changed the subject before she could start asking too many questions. "What's happening?"

Sakura looked in Sasuke and Naruto's general direction, visibly worried. "I'm not sure. We can't see anything."

"Wait!" Tazuna interrupted them. "The mist is starting to clear."

All four of them turned and looked. They could just make out two shadowy figures, glaring at each other.

Sakura gasped. "One of them's moving."

One figure charged at the other. As they neared Shiro felt a familiar chakra, and her eyes widened. "No."

An instant later there was a shockwave. The mist cleared, and the scent of blood filled the air. Everyone stared, trying to comprehend the scene before them.

Kakashi's right arm was plunged through Haku's chest, blood dripping from the hand that emerged from the other side. Zabuza stood behind Haku, covered in dog bites. Zabuza and Kakashi wore the same shocked expression, and both men were covered in Haku's blood.

Everyone froze, speechless. Sakura covered her mouth, and Shiro had a pained expression. But neither of them looked away.

Then Haku coughed, and time started moving again. "Zabuza...s-sir."

With shaky movements, Haku grabbed Kakashi's arm that was still pierced into his chest. Zabuza's expression grew dark, but when he looked at Kakashi his fierce gaze was back. "You said my future was death. But you missed again, Kakashi."

Just then Naruto emerged from the mist, freezing in place when he saw the gruesome scene.

Zabuza closed his eyes, chuckling. But Kai saw through it, having been in Zabuza's position before. He's steeling himself.

"That was brilliant, Haku." Zabuza grabbed his sword, lunging toward Kakashi. "I really did find a treasure in that gutter!"
