Shiro's POV:
Our small wooden boat glided silently over the water, entering the Land of Waves without making a sound. An old fisherman guided it expertly to a hidden dock before letting the seven of us off.
"This is as far as I go. Take care of yourselves."
The old man gunned his motor and sped off, eager to get as far away from us as possible.
Tazuna watched him go, then readjusted his pack. "Now, if I can just make it home safely..."
Considering a billionaire wants him dead, that's probably not gonna happen. Another attack was coming, and this time our opponents wouldn't be so weak.
The only good thing is that we were surrounded by water. If things got to the point where I had to use my ace, there was no better place than here.
"Over there!!" Naruto suddenly spun around, throwing his shuriken into a bush on our right. I flinched, turning around so quickly my hood flew off.
.....Total silence. Nothing moved, not even a bird.
Naruto scratched his head sheepishly. "I, uh, guess it was only a mouse."
Sighing, I fixed my hood so it hid my ears again as the others lectured Naruto on the danger of shuriken. It's our own fault for expecting anything from the idiot.
My ears twitched as I heard something rustling. But before I could identify it Naruto spun around, throwing another shuriken into the bushes. "This time! Over there!"
Kakashi parted the bushes to reveal--A dead rabbit. Well, it wasn't actually dead yet, but considering a shuriken was buried in its head it probably wished it was.
"Naruto! Look what you did!" The sight of the half-dead white rabbit made Sakura furious. Naruto tried to revive the poor animal, apologizing with tears in his eyes.
These idiots are going to be the death of me.
Then I heard something cutting the air, and Kakashi barked an order: "Everyone, take cover!!"
We all hit the deck as something huge and sharp spun over our heads. The object had so much force behind it that it went halfway through a tree before it stopped and I could take a proper look at it.
The object was a huge broadsword. My stomach sank as I recognized the blade's design, which was reminiscent of a butcher knife. It can't be. Not him of all people.
My hopes were crushed as a tall, muscular man landed on the handle, the lower half of his face bandaged like a mummy. That figure was one Kai and I could never forget.
"If it isn't Zabuza Momochi, the kid who ran off and left the Land of Mist." Kakashi glared at the man, totally serious for once.
Naruto tried to rush Zabuza while they were talking, but Kakashi held up his hand to stop him. "Don't interfere. This one's on a different plane from our previous opponents. And if I'm going to face him, It'd better be.." Kakashi grabbed his headband "...like this."
Zabuza didn't show any sign of fear as he looked down at our sensei. "Kakashi of the Sharingan Eye, I presume? And my old friends Kai and Shiro as well. If you don't mind, could you surrender the old man?"
Kakashi's eye widened when our names were mentioned, but he didn't look away from Zabuza. Smart move. Naruto and Sakura, on the other hand, seemed to completely forget about the master assassin staring at us as they turned around in shock. "You know this guy?"
"Not the time." I flicked my wrists, grabbing my knives in a familiar motion as they slid out of their holsters. The duo took one look at them and decided to shut up.
