summer nights
drift away
but not the feel of warm nights weighing on my back
and the feel of dizziness after a tender night
and a quiet sense of past and impending future
a longing to stop time
to freeze right where I am forever
to still this incandescent moment into an eternal kaleidoscope
that flashes through your eyes every moment you draw breath
swift dances and fleeting love for a stranger
the return of an old flame,
be it within your self
or someone that you longed for moons ago
within a fortnight, it will all be gone no doubt
but carry the feeling that rushes through your vessels in a small pocket of your heart
and let it linger
so that even in the crisp autumn air,
a long forgotten warmness will surge through you
you won't know what it is
but you'll hold them close to you
those hot summer days.
