Today was the day, I was FINALLY getting out of my mothers house and although not completely its still something. We all had loaded the cars last night, my moms car was packed with stuff and so was my grandfathers, we hit the road and headed for Clark Atlanta University.
"Dejah I wanna talk to you for a minute" My mom said as she turned down her music
"Living on campus is a great thing to experience so make the best out of it, I'm glad you're going to experience what I never got to experience, not saying I regret having you or anything, but I do wish I could've stayed on campus. What you do need to know is that everything you do here counts down from the homework you do and the boys you'll come across. I don't know if you're sexually active yet, but if you're gonna suck dick, suck dick with pride so people know you take pride in EVERYTHING you do."
I immediately stopped the conversation because I couldn't take anymore of anything else she was saying. Finally we had arrived at school and the whole family helped unpack both cars and decorate my new home for a couple months. After my family left I did what any teen would do... I got ready to party. I was set for while since this was a new area for me and I'm new to campus I wouldn't have a plug or an liquor store so I bought an ounce of weed, bottle of Henny, and a bottle of Jack Daniels. Now you're probably thinking "Who's she gonna party with when its her first day on campus." I had met some friends online they were just like me smokers, drinkers, love to party.
"HEY! You ready?" I said as I walked downstairs to the lobby of my dorm to meet her.
"Yeah, this is my roommate Kayla, Kayla this is Dejah" Kierra said
"Nice to meet you, you smoke?" I replied
"Of course"
"Well lets go then"
See unlike my new friends I had already knew where the parties would be I had friends that also went here and gave me the inside scoop on everything.
"So I heard there's a place called "FLOP" that's having a party they're walking distance too" I said as we walked down the street trying to light our blunts.
We finally got to FLOP and all I could see was a bunch of tall white guys guarding the door "that'll be $5" one of them said in a deep ass voice. "Damn $5?!" the guy behind us said. I had definitely agreed with him, but I still paid my 5.
Now first when you walk into FLOP there was the kitchen. First thing I saw was older people, assuming they were upperclassmen I didn't wanna make myself seem like a freshman, but trust me when you're a freshman in college no matter how hard you try not to make yourself seem like a freshman in college, they'll know.
"So you guys freshman?" One of them said "Say no" is all I thought "Yeah" Kayla replied without hesitation "DAMN BITCH" i thought to myself learn how to finesse. "Well... Welcome to flop this is the kitchen as you can tell, over there is the living room, downstairs if you want drinks that's where you'll find them, and upstairs is where you'll find all the smokers" he added.
"Oh well upstairs is where we need to be" I said. We maneuvered our way up the tight stairs to finally get to the top. There were 3 couches and 4 rooms, pictures on the wall of all the fraternity brothers that ever lived there, but all the way at the end of the room was a guy he had his eyes closed and didn't look too good. We sat down and re-lit our blunts I had also had my Henny so I pulled that out too and began to share. "Yall drink?" I asked "Yeah" they both replied and began to take shots of my drink.
"Ehhhhhh" The sick guy had said, we all turned our heads to look. "Maybe we should check out downstairs"
*DING*
My phone had rang, but with this type of environment I was not pulling out my phone, well not until we got downstairs at least.
*DING*
*DING*
*DING*
Whoever was texting me was blowing me up.
We had finally made it downstairs where we saw the bar and once again a bunch of white guys standing around it. Downstairs was cool because the walls had graffiti on it and there was a black light that made it pop. "Dope" Kierra said pointing at it than looking at me to look at it too. It was like something you'd see on Chris Brown's instagram that he had drew. I had finally pulled out my phone and read my texts.
"DO NOT GO TO FLOP, I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO FLOP. THEY ARE KNOWN FOR DRUGGING GIRLS AND TAKING THEM UPSTAIRS AND RAPING THEM. FLOP STANDS FOR : FRESHMAN'S LOVES OUR PARTIES" I read.
Immediately my heart dropped all I wanted to do was to get the fuck out of there. I showed the girls the phone and they gave me the same look I made. "We out?" I yelled loud enough for them to hear me over the music. Finally making it out we agreed to never tell anyone that we had ever gone to a party there before. "Hey I heard the football house is having a party" Kierra said "Where is it" I replied. She put the location in her phone showing that it was a 30 minute walk. "Oh HELL NO" I replied "Lets go to the baseball house, I heard that's lit plus it's closer" I added we began to walk there, but as we got closer we saw that there was a lot of people standing outside. "FRESHMAN GET THE FUCK OFF OUR LAWN" some huge white guy yelled from his porch. "Well football house it is?" Kierra said. "I'm not walking 30 minutes because then how are we getting home?" I said.
My mother had always taught me to not go out unless I had a way home.
"Well" Kayla said
I was shocked to even hear her speak because she had been quiet this whole time. "I kinda have a car" she added. "Kind of? so what is it like a half car or some shit" I said "No like I have it, but not allowed to drive it unless its an emergency" she continued on.
Right there I had knew that Kayla and I wouldn't be friends for too long, she had been far away from her parents and they would never know if she took the car right now. She had seemed like the scary type and I had low tolerance for those type of people. "So are you offering to drive?" Kierra said "I guess I can?" Kayla answered "Great! lets go" I said trying to move fast before she could change her mind.
We had arrived at the football house, and when I say it was a bunch of fine ass black niggas I mean it. I had been too nervous to walk up first, but I did it anyways.
"Woah Woah Woah slow down ladies would you like to introduce yourself before you just walk into our home?" one of them had said.
I was a bit confused because there had to be hundreds of people here so did they stop everyone like this or just us? "Dejah" I said "Kayla" , "Kierra" they replied after me. "Yall freshman?" he asked. I didn't say anything, tonight I hated that question.
"Yeah" Kayla said "Someone has got to teach this bitch" I thought to myself.
"Hey Kayla why don't you come here" someone said from a far. He was light skinned and skinny obviously on the football team. "My name is Izzy" I overheard him say as she sat on his lap.
"Yall can go inside ladies" The first guy had replied, but I shook my head no I had read the night before never to leave your friend at a college party alone and althought I did't know ole' girl like that I wasn't trying to leave her, plus she's my ride home! "Nah I'm good i'll wait for my friend" I replied. "Aw come on don't be like that your friend is in good hands can't you see" he continued on. Kayla looked at us and said "Yeah you can go."
Kierra and I walked into the house first thing I smelled was weed, ass, and sweat it was like combined all together. The house was so packed that we found space in the kitchen to just chill. I turned to my left and saw this black dude sniffing coke, I had never sniffed coke before, but when you live in the hood you know coke when you see it. I turned to my right and I had saw a white girl throwing up in their kitchen sink. "It's okay, let it all out" her friend said as she held her hair.
"This shit crazy" Kierra said. We couldn't take it we didn't wanna be there anymore so we left. As we're walking out the door someone grabbed my arm "Aye, what's your snap?" I put my snapchat username in his phone and added myself, smiled and walked away.
This would be the start of a new beginning.
