[CHAPTER 2]

{Class}

Song suggestion| Hum Pyaar Karne Waale (Dil)

THIRD PERSON'S POV:

"Ok class, hum aap sabhi se ek sawaal ka jawwab chahte hai," Mrs. Gupta, the class teacher, said.

"Yes Ma'am" the class recited in unison.

"Pothi padh padh kar jag mua, pandit bhayo na koe, dhai akhar prem ka, padhe so pandit hoye," she stopped briefly, "yeh Kabir Das ji ka sabse pyaare doho mein se ek hai. Hum sab ne yeh dohe ko padh kar ek na ek baar ye socha zaroor hoga, ke iske maine kya hai? Iska matlab kya hai?" her light brown eyes scanned the classroom, "Arnav?"

The boy sitting in the third row from the front stood up from his seat, "Arnav, aap baatayenge class ko iss dohe ka matlab. Thik hai?"

Arnav gulped. He looked down at his only hope, his best friend, Dua, for help. She blinked to reassure him and started writing in her book. For a few seconds, he just stood there, trying his best not to look awkward.

Finally, he was able to read what his friend had written in her book, "uh... ma'am, jab se humne hosh sambhala hai, hume humare maa baap ne sikhaya hai ke padho aur kuch bano. Kitabe padhne se koi kuch ban nahi jayega ma'am,"

"Aap kehna kya chahare hai?"

Arnav looked down at the book once again, "ma'am, koi badha padhne likhne se nahi banta. Koi chota usi dina bada hota hai jis din use pyaar ki samajh ho jaye. Hum itni lambi lambi kitaabe agar raat sakte hai, toh prem, jo dhai akhar ka lafz hai, use kyun nahi padhte?" the woman in her mid 30's nodded, a smile making its way onto her face, "ma'am, hume lagta hai ke jo is lafz ke maine samajh lega, woh har padhe likhe doctor, businessman, engineer se bada hoga."

The smile on Mrs. Gupta's face only grew larger, "and where did you copy this from?" she asked knowingly, "uhhhhh......."

"Dua stand up," the girl sitting next to Arnav stood up promptly, "aap ko kya lagta hai ke mein aap dono doston ki is chori ko nahi pakad paoongi?"

"Ma'am, hum-"before Dua said anything, she was interrupted by her teacher,

"Well said Dua. A person who understands love has, is, and always will be greater than any learned man," she looked at Dua and Arnav, "sit down you two."

"Aise kaise har baar Mrs. Gupta ko pata lag jaata hai?"

Dua slapped Arnav on the shoulder,

"kyunki tum itne bewaqoof jo ho," she laughed, beginning to run, as Arnav chased behind her.

"Aaj bh kaam? Kaam kar, kar ke thakhti nahi ho kya?"

Dua shook her head,

"Jin logon ne hume apnaya, pehchan di, apna naam diya, hume banaya, un ke liye hum aapni jaan bhi de dein, toh bhi kam hai," a tear slipped from her eye.

Arnav wiped it, unable to endure a tear prickling her beautiful almond eyes,

"Koi baat nahi, kisi aur din sahi," and with that, the young boy walked away, leaving Dua standing all alone on a busy street.

Urdu Dictionary:

"Hum aap sabhi se ek sawaal ka jawaab jahte hai": "I want an answer for a question from all of you."

"Kyunki tum itne bewaqoof jo ho.": "Because you are so stupid."

"Jin logon ne hume apnaya, pehchaan di, aapna naam diya, hume banaya, un ke liye hum aapni jaan bhi de dein, toh bhi kam hai.": "The people who accepted me, gave me an identity, gave their name, made me, for them even if i give my life, it would never be enough."

Hindi Dictionary:

"Pothi padh kar jag mua, pandit bhayo na koe, dhai akhar prem ka, padhe so pandit hoye": "Scholars were never made, from reading countless books, but the one who understands love, is greater than any learned man."

"Yeh Kabir Das ji ke sabse pyaare doho me se ek hai. Hum sab ne yeh dohe ko padh kar ek na ek baar ye soch zaroor hoga, ke iske maine kya hai? Iska matlab kya hai?: "This is one of Kabir Das's most beautiful poems. We all have read this poem and thought at least once about what it's meaning? What is it's meaning?"

"Aap batayenge iss class ko iss dohe ka matlab. Thik hai?": "You will tell the class the meaning of this poem. Okay?"

"Jab se humne hosh sambhala hai, hume humare maa baap ne sikhaya hai ke padho aur kuch bano. Kitaabe padhne se koi kuch ban nahi jayega.": "Ever since we were a certain age, our parents taught us to study and become a somebody. No one can become a somebody from just reading books."

"Aap kehna kya chahare hai?": "What are you trying to say?"

"Koi badha padhne likhne se nahi banta. Koi chota usi din bada hota hai jis din use pyaar ki samajh ho jaye. Hum agar itni lambi, lambi kitaabe raat sakte hai, toh prem, jo dhai akhar ka lafz hai, use kyun nahi padhte?": "No one becomes a somebody from just studying. Someone becomes a somebody the day they understand love. If we can read long books and memorise them, then love, which is a word of only two and a half letters, why don't we study that?

"Hume lagta hai jo iss lafz ke maine samajh lega, woh har padhe like doctor, businessman, engineer se badha hoga.": "I think that anyone who understands this word, is greater than any doctor, businessman or engineer."

"Aap ko kya lagta hai ke mein aap dono dosto ki chodi ko nahi pakad paoongi?": "Do you think that I won't be able to catch the stealth of you two best friends?"

"Aise kaise Mrs. Gupta ko har baar pata lag jaata hai?": "How does Mrs. Gupta find out each time?"

"Aaj bhi kaam? Kaam kar, kar ke thakhti nahi ho kya?": "Work again today? Don't you get tired from working?"

"Koi baat nahi, kisi aur din sahi.": "Never mind, maybe some other day."
